France will be targeting success in the European Championships next year to add to the World Cup success that they achieved in 2018. There will be a number of changes to the team for this match, but they will still be optimistic that their fringe players will get the job done against Finland.
France are still regarded as the best international team on the planet despite not being the top ranked side by FIFA. They will be the heavy favourites for the European Championships next season, but Didier Deschamps will be keen to get his side into the best possible condition, as they face a stern test if they are to get out of that group in the form of Germany and Portugal. France have been in decent form over their last three matches as they have won on two occasions. Furthermore, they have scored nine goals in these games, with seven of those coming in their last international friendly against Ukraine. Eduardo Camavingo, Corentin Tolisso and Kylian Mbappe were among the scorers in that win. Meanwhile, Oliver Giroud also scored a brace, while there was also a goal for Antoine Griezmann.
Finland have been in decent form in their last two fixtures, as they have won both of their most recent fixtures. They beat Bulgaria in the first of those matches 2-0, with the goals in the game being scored by Robert Taylor and Fredrik Jensen. That was followed up with another win in their most recent fixture against the Republic of Ireland. Jensen was once again the scorer in that win against the Irish, and that put them in a strong position in their Nations League group. However, this is a big step up in quality.
This will be the first meeting between these nations since 2013, and the ninth fixture overall. France have won all eight previous meetings, while they haven’t conceded a goal against Finland since 1992. The last meeting between the sides ended in a 3-0 win for France in 2013, with Karim Benzema and Franck Ribery among the scorers.
France should have more than enough quality to get the win from this fixture, as they have the stronger squad, and they should still win comfortably even by changing a couple of the regular first-team players.
