All eyes will be on Köln on Saturday afternoon as Union Berlin travel to the RheinEnergie Stadion looking for an important three points to pull themselves away for the relegation places.
FC Köln will welcome Union Berlin on Saturday afternoon, with both sides looking for the win that would effectively mean that they are safe in the Bundesliga this season. FC Köln have been in disappointing form since the restart, as they are yet to win and have lost two of their previous five.
They still have the seven-point gap between themselves and Fortuna Dusseldorf, but they will be wary of continuing their winless run. FC Köln brought an end to their two-match losing streak last time out as they picked up a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Augsburg. All the action came in the final five minutes of the match as Anthony Modeste gave FC Köln the lead before Phillipp Max equalised three minutes later. The hosts will be looking for a first win since the restart this weekend.
Meanwhile, Union Berlin are flirting dangerously with the relegation places having lost four of their previous six. Their season had been going excellently before the restart, and in truth, their performances earlier in the season make them deserving of retaining their place in the Bundesliga for the first time ever. However, there are just four points between themselves and Fortuna now, and with the sides below them picking up more points, there is a fear that Union may end up in the relegation battle over the final weeks.
They picked up a hard-fought draw last time out, as they drew 1-1 with out-of-form Schalke. Robert Andrich opened the scoring for Union before Jonjoe Kenny levelled the scores before the break. Union would likely be happy with the point from this fixture.
These two sides have met on seven previous occasions, with both FC Köln and Union Berlin winning on three occasions. There has also been one draw between the two sides. FC Köln haven’t beaten Union since 2014, with Union having won the last two matches 2-0.
The form of both these sides doesn’t give either side the advantage, as neither have them have won a game since the Bundesliga restarted. There will be pressure on Union and FC Köln to get something from the game, and that could mean that the draw is the most likely result.
