The final fixture of this round of Bundesliga fixtures will take place on Monday evening, as RB Leipzig will be looking to get back to winning ways against FC Köln. But, will Julian Nagelsmann’s side be able to get the three points that they need?
FC Köln will come into this game low on confidence having won only once in their last five league games. They have been struggling since the restart, and have only picked up two points. Fortunately for them, there are no lingering fears that they may be relegated this season as they hold an eight-point lead over the side in the relegation playoff spot. However, they would be wary about going on a run of losing games as that could drag them back into danger.
Last time out, they were handed their first defeat since the restart in a hotly contested fixture with Hoffenheim. Christoph Baumgartner put Hoffenheim ahead, before Sebastiaan Bornauw was sent off after 26 minutes. Hoffenheim took full advantage of the extra man and scored two more early in the second half. Florian Kainz scored a consolation for Köln, but they will need a much-improved performance against Leipzig.
Leipzig had the perfect opportunity to leapfrog Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday evening, but they blew it. Dortmund’s defeat meant that a victory for Leipzig would take them into second place, but they could only secure a 2-2 draw against Hertha Berlin.
Leipzig have struggled at home over recent weeks, with that their second draw at the Red Bull Arena since the restart. They have won just twice in their last six games, with their most recent victory coming on the road against Mainz. Lukas Klostermann and Patrik Schick scored in the draw against Hertha on Wednesday.
This will be the sixth time that these two sides have met, with Leipzig holding the lion share of victories having won on three occasions. Köln have won once and there has been one draw. The meeting earlier in the season ended in a routine 4-1 win for Leipzig.
Leipzig’s troubles this season have come on their home patch, which means that they will not suffer from playing away. They have won more games away from the Red Bull Arena this season, and Leipzig will be able to get another comfortable victory on the road at the RehinEnergie Stadion.
