Freiburg return to action in the Bundesliga this weekend after an eventful fixture against Bayern Munich last time out. They will be looking to bounce back to improve their Champions League hopes with a road victory against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Freiburg remain in a much better position than they could have dreamed of at the start of the season. However, they will need to rediscover their best form if they are to cause a shock this season and finish the campaign in a Champions League place. They come into this fixture sitting fifth, and are currently three points behind RB Leipzig.
There could yet be a change in that different, as Bayern Munich broke Bundesliga rules last weekend during their 4-1 victory over Freiburg as they fielded 12 players for a short period of the game.
However, it is unclear when any ruling on a final decision will be made by the German governing body. Freiburg have failed to win in their previous two games, while they have recorded just a single victory in their last four outings.
Eintracht Frankfurt still have an outside chance of finishing the season in a European spot, but draws are becoming a slight issue. They have been difficult to beat throughout the season, and have gone four without a loss in recent fixtures in the Bundesliga.
However, they have been held to back-to-back draws in the Bundesliga, and they will need to bounce back if they are to finish in a European place this season. Their latest draw was a 0-0 stalemate against Furth at home last weekend. That was the second straight 0-0 draw that Frankfurt had recorded in the Bundesliga following their stalemate against Leipzig at the end of March.
Frankfurt have a strong record in this fixture, as they have won the previous two matches between the sides, and are unbeaten in their previous four. However, two of the fixtures during that run have ended in draws. Frankfurt picked up the points in the meeting between the sides earlier in the season, as they won 2-0 on the road in November.
Frankfurt have an excellent record against Freiburg, but we could see a rare victory for the away side being recorded this weekend. The travelling side will be looking to bounce back, and will likely need to record a victory to keep their Champions League dreams alive.
