It promises to be a nervy end to the season for Chelsea, as they could still potentially miss out on Champions League football next season. They will need to beat Wolves on Sunday to ensure that they secure their spot in the top-four.
Chelsea have already done a lot of business in the transfer window, with Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech brought in. However, both players will be watching anxiously on Sunday hoping that their new team can get the job done and finish in the top four. The Blues have been inconsistent over recent weeks as they have lost three of their last six games. That also includes just one win in their last three games. Chelsea were unlucky in their last fixture as they played excellently despite losing 5-3 to Liverpool.
Christian Pulisic made an immediate impact in that fixture as he set up Tammy Abraham before scoring himself. However, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain made sure of the three points in the final moments of the game. Frank Lampard will be aware that a defeat in this fixture coupled with a draw between Manchester United and Leicester City will mean that his side will be in the Europa League next season.
Wolves also need the three points in the final game of the season as they are looking to secure a sixth place finish. A defeat for them would leave the door open for Tottenham Hotspur to pounce. Wolves have been in good form over their last three games as they have won twice and drawn once. Their most recent win was against Crystal Palace, as Daniel Podence and Jonny scored the goals in the 2-0 win. This will be a much tougher assignment for them, but they do impress against the best sides in the league.
Wolves have won just once in seven attempts against Chelsea. The Blues have won five times in that space of time, while there has been one draw. The fixture earlier in the season resulted in an emphatic 5-2 win for Chelsea.
Chelsea will know that they will need to get three points in this fixture, and they will. The Blues have been impressive in their last two games and there looks to be goals everywhere in the team. Wolves have been playing competitive action for over 12 months, and that could go against them in this fixture.
