Atletico Madrid will be looking to continue their excellent run of form when they return to La Liga action following the international break on Saturday. Celta Vigo will be the hosts, as they look for maximum points to move out of the bottom three spots.
Atletico Madrid will be hoping that the recent international break hasn’t stifled their momentum, as the Spanish club come into the restart after winning each of their last four matches. Atletico currently sit five points off the top spot in the current standings, and they have suffered just one defeat in their opening eight matches this term.
The Spanish giants are among the highest scorers in the league at this point, as they have found the back of the net on 20 occasions. Meanwhile, they have conceded just eight times. However, they needed to ride their luck in their most recent match before the international break, as Antoine Griezmann scored an 89th minute penalty to land a 2-1 home victory over Real Sociedad.
There is likely to be pressure on the hosts this weekend, as it has been an underwhelming start to the new season under Rafael Benitez for Celta Vigo. At present, they sit inside the relegation spots in the La Liga standings, as they have landed just a single victory from their opening nine matches this term.
Celta also come into this fixture after going five without a win in the competition. Over that run, they have suffered three defeats. But, they did end that poor run of results before the international break, as they struck back to earn a 2-2 draw against Getafe.
Atletico Madrid have excelled in recent fixtures against Celta Vigo, as they have won each of the last four. Meanwhile, the capital club are unbeaten in their last nine La Liga clashes against their rivals, with Celta’s last win over Atletico coming back in September 2018.
Celta were better than the bare result suggested against Getafe before the international break. However, this is a much more challenging fixture on Saturday, as Atletico are one of the in-form sides in the competition. Therefore, it is worth sticking with the visitors to land maximum points to edge nearer to the top of the standings.
