Cameroon vs Malawi Prediction: World Cup Qualifying Match on 03.09.2021

One of the most hotly contested groups for World Cup qualification in the African region will be Group D. Cameroon and the Ivory Coast are the two heavyweights located in the group, which means a perfect start for both nations will be essential to their chances. Cameroon open against Malawi on Friday.

World Cup Qualifier Preview

Cameroon will be aware that they will need to be at the top of their game to safely reach the World Cup finals next year. They are one of the most respected nations from Africa when it comes to the World Cup, as they have reached the finals on seven previous occasions. Their recent form has been very disappointing, as they have won just one game in their last nine. That win came in the African Nations Championship quarterfinals, as they beat DR Congo. However, they were later beaten by Morocco in the semi-finals, and then Guinea in the match for third. Since the end of that competition, Cameroon have been beaten by Cape Verde in Africa Cup of Nations qualification, and also Nigeria in an international friendly. Their last outing ended in a 0-0 stalemate against Nigeria in a friendly.

Malawi are also out of form coming into the qualification campaign, as they have won two games in their last seven. However, they are without a win in five competitive fixtures. They lost 2-0 in a friendly against Tanzania in the middle of June, before going on to take just two points from games against Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Namibia in the COSAFA Cup group stages. They were eventually knocked out of that competition after being beaten by Senegal in the final group stage fixture. They will be hoping for a more competitive showing in World Cup qualification.

Cameroon vs Malawi Head to Head

Malawi have beaten Cameroon just once in their history, with that win coming back in the African Games in 1987. Since that win, Cameroon have recorded two victories in the previous four. Cameroon won 1-0 in Africa Cup of Nations qualification in 2018, before being held to a 0-0 draw in the return fixture.

Cameroon vs Malawi Prediction

Neither side have been in blossoming form over the past year or so, which does offer a layer of unpredictability. However, Cameroon are the better side and have the superior players. Therefore, it would be hard to bet against them claiming a win in this fixture.
