It has been an indifferent past seven days for Bayern Munich, but their focus must shift back to the Bundesliga this weekend, as they take on Union Berlin.
Bayern Munich will come into this fixture on the weekend after a couple of days of soul-searching. The Bavarian giants were beaten in the first leg of their quarterfinal clash with PSG, despite having over 30 shots in the game. The absence of Robert Lewandowski would certainly have been detrimental to their chances in that fixture, but that is something that they will need to overcome in the second leg next week. In the league, it has been more straightforward for them over recent weeks. The 1-0 win that they picked up against RB Leipzig last weekend saw them go clear at the top of the league, and they now have an advantage of seven points. The gap would appear to wide for Leipzig to get back into the title picture, but this fixture against Union Berlin will be a testing fixture for them.
Union have enjoyed a season to remember to this point, but they will still have work to do if they want to finish in a European spot this season. They are four points off the Europa League spots coming into this fixture at the Allianz Arena, as they have struggled in their most recent fixtures. Union come to Munich after going two without a win in the league, while they have won just once in their last five. Union picked up a 1-1 draw in their most recent outing against Hertha Berlin. Robert Andrich scored the opener in that game, but Hertha hit back before the half-time break, with their one and only shot on target in the game.
Bayern and Union have met on just three occasions in the past, with Bayern picking up two wins in these fixtures. Both of those wins came last season. However, the previous meeting between the sides this term ended in a 1-1 draw, with Bayern hitting back in the second half of the contest in December.
Bayern will still be disappointed from their result in mid-week, but there is always a response from the German giants. They could be set to win this fixture comfortably, which means the handicap market may be the best bet.
