Top comes up against bottom in Group C of the Europa Conference League on Thursday, as Villarreal look to maintain the excellent form that they have shown in the competition to this point. Meanwhile, Austria Vienna will be looking for a first victory at the fourth attempt in the competition this term.
Villarreal look to be one of the outstanding chances to win the Europa Conference League this term, as they have looked incredibly strong throughout the competition. The Spanish side currently sits top of the Group C standings after winning all three of the fixtures that they have played so far. During that run, they have scored an incredible eleven goals, and have conceded on four occasions.
They once again showed the dominance that they hold over this group last week, as they claimed a massive 5-0 success at home against Austria Vienna. Alex Baena opened the scoring after just 20 minutes, before the advantage was doubled before the half time break through Arnaut Danjuma.
The second half was all about the dominance of Jose Luis Morales in the final third, as the forward netted a stunning hat-trick in the final 15 minutes. Austria Vienna were likely guilty of being too open in large periods of that match, as they tried to take the game to Villarreal as much as they could.
However, that game plan certainly went against them in the fixture last week, as the Spanish side were able to breakthrough at ease on multiple occasions. They will need to be much stricter defensively in this home fixture on Thursday if they have any hope of taking any points away from the fixture against the La Liga giants.
This will be only the second time that Villarreal and Austria Vienna have clashed in the Europa Conference League. It was clear that the Spanish side were much the better of the sides in the previous meeting, as they claimed a 5-0 success in Spain last week.
Villarreal showed that they are by far the dominant side in this group last week, and we struggle to see their winning run coming to an end against the same opponent on Thursday. Once again, we see the Spanish side running out comfortable winners, and a 2-0 scoreline could be the outcome.
