The most engaging fixture in Serie A this weekend will see two of the most exciting sides go head to head. But, will it be Atalanta or Roma that are able to claim the three points?
Atalanta will still be hopeful that they will be able to push on and challenge for a place in the Champions League in the second half of the season, but there are issues that need to be addressed. These are the same issues that have hindered Atalanta over the past couple of seasons, as they have conceded far too many goals. Defensively they have been suspect once again this term, and they have already let in 17 goals in eleven games this campaign. No other side in the top nine has let in more goals than them this season, but they have been able to paper over the cracks once again because of their excellent attacking record. Atalanta have scored 22 goals so far this season, which is an average of two goals per game. However, they were held in their last Serie A fixture by Juventus. They bounced back excellently to get the draw in that game, with Remo Freuler scoring in the 57th minute to salvage a point.
Roma have also had difficulties themselves in stopping goals being scored against them, as they have also let in 17 goals this season. However, they have scored the second-highest number of goals this term, and have been able to win seven of their 12 games. They are currently in the top four in Italy, and could move as high as second this weekend depending on other results. Roma have been in great form over recent weeks, and they will come into this testing away game with wins in their last two. Their last win was a 3-1 success against Torino, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Jordan Veretout and Lorenzo Pellegrini scoring the goals.
Atalanta have an exceptional record against AS Roma over recent season, as they come into this fixture having won three of the previous five. Atalanta won both games last season, with the most recent of those being a 2-1 win in February.
This is a game that could feasibly go either way depending on how the two sides perform on Sunday. For that reason, an entertaining draw with both teams scoring could be the most logical bet.
