Roma’s Champions League hopes were dealt a blow last time out as they were beaten, but they will be looking to get back on track this weekend against Udinese.
AS Roma would have been happy with their first half of Serie A this term, as they are in a strong position to continue their challenge for a Champions League place in the second half of the season. However, they would be wary of the form that is being show by Lazio, as they have won their last six and are now level on points with Roma for fourth spot. Roma’s form hasn’t been the best over their last five, as they have been beaten on two occasions. The most recent of the defeats that they have suffered game against Juventus, as Paulo Fonseca’s side failed to lay a glove on the reigning champions. They are a side that concede a lot of goals, as no team in the top 12 in Serie A have conceded more than Roma this season.
It doesn’t look like it will be an easy game for Roma this weekend, as Udinese have been showing excellent form over their last four games. A run of successive victories has seen them move up the league standings quickly, as they are now in eleventh spot in the league table. A win this weekend could see them move into the top half depending on results elsewhere. Their last two wins have come against Spezia and Hellas Verona, and they have proven to be excellent defensively. Udinese haven’t conceded a goal in their last three games, with the 0-0 draw against Inter Milan being the pick of their excellent defensive performances.
There hasn’t been a drawn between these two sides for eight years, but it has often been a fixture dominated by Roma. They have won 13 of the last 15 meetings between the two teams. Roma also won the game earlier in the season 1-0.
Udinese have been on an excellent run of form over recent weeks, but they have historically struggled for wins against Roma. Roma need a big performance this weekend to ensure that they end the round in a Champions League place, and we expect them to take all three points in Rome.
