The runaway leaders in the Premier League will be looking to put their early EFL Cup exit behind them on Saturday, as Manchester City return to league action when they travel to the Black Country to take on Wolves.
Manchester City have made a dominant start to the new Premier League season, as they already sit two points clear at the top of the standings after winning each of their opening six matches this term. City could extend that advantage this weekend if they are able to pick up maximum points on the road against Wolves.
Pep Guardiola will be looking for a response from his side on Saturday, as the reigning league champions crashed out of the EFL Cup in midweek after suffering a 1-0 away loss against Newcastle United. City could create some history this weekend, as they could become only the third team in Premier League history to win each of their opening seven matches at the start of the new season. In fact, City have won 71 points in the Premier League this calendar year, which is the most of any side in the competition.
This looks set to be a daunting prospect for Wolves this weekend, as they have picked up just one victory from their opening six matches this term. They come into this fixture after failing to win their previous three, which includes two defeats. A loss this weekend could see them end the round in the bottom three spots.
The only win Wolves have recorded this term came at Goodison Park against Everton. They come into this fixture having lost each of their opening two at Molineux this term. Wolves haven’t lost each of their opening three home matches at the start of a new season since the 2021-22 season.
Bet hereMan City completed the double over Wolves last season, and have also claimed six straight victories by an aggregate scoreline of 19-3. Wolves completed the double over City in the 2019-20 season, but they are winless since then.
This looks a huge task for Wolves this weekend given their recent performances. We expect City to enjoy their trip to Molineux on Saturday, and we could see them landing victory by at least a three-goal winning margin against Wolves.
