Wolves and Crystal Palace have both exceeded expectations this season, as both were expected to battle against relegation before a ball was kicked in 2023-24. The home side will be looking for a victory over the Eagles this weekend to put them on course for a top-half finish.
Gary O’Neill deserves huge respect for the job that he has done at Wolves this season, as the former Bournemouth coach took over at Molineux just days before the start of the campaign. However, they have easily been able to move clear of the drop zone throughout the season and they could yet end the campaign in the top ten positions.
Crystal Palace will also be looking ahead to next season, as Oliver Glasner has adopted an attacking style of play that hasn’t been seen at Selhurst Park for many seasons. The Eagles should come into this penultimate round in excellent confidence after landing a memorable 4-0 home success against Man United in the previous round of matches.
Wolves have a strangely poor record in their final home matches of a league season, as they have failed to claim a final victory at Molineux in each of the last three seasons. But, it could be worth noting that draws have been played out on top occasions. Wolves have also been behind at half time in 13 different matches this term, which is more than any other side outside of the bottom three.
Crystal Palace have also failed to land victories in their final away matches of a Premier League season in recent years. They have failed to land a win in each of their last four final away trips of the season since landing success against Cardiff City in 2018-19.
Palace boasts the superior record based on head-to-head clashes between the teams. The Eagles have won five of their last six against Wolves, with the only exception coming in this exact fixture last term after the hosts were able to land a 2-0 victory.
Palace boasts a 55% win rate in matches against Wolves in the Premier League, which is their second-best strike rate against a single opponent. Given the dominance that they have shown across their last five, it could be worth siding with the Eagles to land victory on Saturday.
