Real Valladolid’s season continues to worry all parties, including political parties in Spain. The club ranks last in La Liga, 14 points behind 19th-placed Leganés. With the ambition of bringing the club to the Champions League, former FIFA World Player of the Year Ronaldo has failed in his project, but he resists pressure from political parties in Spain to leave the club.
This led Real Valladolid to publish an open letter of apology on the club’s website, also published on the club’s social media accounts, entitled “pain and apology”.
It comes as a result of the 5-1 defeat to Real Betis last weekend, leading fans with signs saying “Ronaldo go home”. The fans request a total restructuring of the club’s leadership, including the exit of sporting director Domingo Catoira.
Valladolid have only won four games this season, dating back to December 2024, a 1-0 victory against Valencia.
Karl Hein remains sidelined through injury, while Javi Sánchez and Henrique Silva await medical clearance.
Real Valladolid Predicted line-up vs Barcelona (4-1-4-1): Ferreira; Aznou, Aidoo, Cömert, Pérez; Jurić; Moro, Amallah, Anuar, Chuki; Latasa.
Barcelona played out a 3-3 draw with Inter in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals, thanks to goals from Lamine Yamal, Ferrán Torres and an own goal from goalkeeper Yann Sommer.
Rotations are expected in the match against Real Valladolid, ahead of the return leg at San Siro and the last Clásico of the season on May 11th. The match against Real Madrid could be the key decider for Barcelona to claim the league title, especially with the absences of Ferland Mendy and Antonio Rüdiger.
Key players like Pedri and Raphinha seemed exhausted against Inter, which could lead to rotations against Valladolid. Barcelona already defeated Real Madrid a week ago in the Copa del Rey final, as they won 3-2 in extra time thanks to Jules Koundé’s late winner.
Meanwhile, renovation works at the Camp Nou continue to advance, with the future seat of President Joan Laporta already installed. The club hopes to finish the works by September, although the goal is to finish by mid-August, when La Liga will resume for the 2025/2026 season.
Alejandro Balde, Marc Bernal, Marc Casadó, and Robert Lewandowski will remain sidelined through injuries.
Barcelona Predicted line-up vs Real Valladolid (4-2-3-1): Szczęsny; Martin, Cubarsí, Araújo, Koundé; Gavi, de Jong; Raphinha, Olmo, Lamine Yamal; Torres.
Bet hereReal Valladolid’s internal situation makes it complicated for players to thrive. This is also the case of Raúl Moro, who may as well be the only positive of the season.
However, defending against Barcelona is a different story. Although the Catalans are likely to rotate their squad, especially in the event of an early lead, Valladolid are probably going to face a defeat at home.
Barcelona need the victory but cannot afford to deploy the usual gala XI – especially after the exhausting matches against Inter and Real Madrid. Considering Real Betis defeated Valladolid 5-1 last weekend, it would not be surprising to see Barcelona hand out a similar beating.
Due to the unexpected absence of Robert Lewandowski, who suffered an injury, Ferrán Torres has had to demonstrate he can replace him despite the difference in profiles.
The Valencian has taken the opportunity thus far, scoring key goals against Inter and Real Madrid. He may not be as dominant in the box, but his mobility is just as key for the team. If Raphinha or Lamine Yamal get rested, Torres could be the key to scoring as the leader of the attack.
