Tottenham Hotspur, going through one of their worst-ever seasons in the Premier League, will host high-flying Nottingham Forest on Monday night.
Ranked 15th in the table, Spurs have been extremely poor this season, with none of their players except for James Maddison standing out.
Spurs, who are usually known for their holding style of play, have been lacklustre in all three departments in this campaign and will have to play out of their skins to beat Forest.
Their worries were compounded after being beaten by relegation-threatened Wolverhampton Wanderers in their last Premier League outing (2-4).
While the Premier League has been a theater of disappointment for Tottenham, Europe has become their stage for redemption. Last Thursday’s tactical masterclass in Germany saw Spurs steal a 1-0 victory against Eintracht Frankfurt—just enough to squeeze past the Europa League champions after their earlier 1-1 draw at home.
Dominic Solanke, the £65 million man who’s been fighting to justify his price tag all season, delivered when it mattered most. His clinical finish silenced the Deutsche Bank Park crowd and potentially salvaged Tottenham’s season.
However, the fact that their talismanic attacker Heung-min Son has been injured, along with Kevin Danso and Radu Dragusin, makes things more complicated for manager Ange Postecoglou against Nottingham.
Having not kept a clean sheet in their last ten matches will dishearten Spurs’ supporters, and it remains to be seen how many turn up on a workday.
Tottenham Hotspur predicted lineup vs Nottingham Forest: (4-3-3): Vicario; Gray, Romero, Davies, Spence; Bissouma, Sarr, Maddison; Odobert, Solanke, Tel.
Nottingham Forest were disappointed after their narrow 0-1 loss to Everton last weekend, but will not worry too much about Tottenham Hotspur.
The visiting side remain perched upon the third position of the league table, and are all but certain to secure a berth in the UEFA Champions League next season.
With Chris Wood only just having returned to the side after a hip injury, it is clear that Forest have struggled in front of goal, as can be seen by the fact that they have scored only 6 goals in their last 5 matches.
However, their defensive unit, sheltered by goalkeeper Matz Sels, has been the best in the competition this season. They have marked their opponents tightly and fluidly shifted between a man-marking and zonal-marking system.
Forest have kept the most clean sheets in the competition (13), and will be keen on adding one to their tally in this match.
Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi are the sole absentees for Nuno Espirito Santo’s team in this match because of injuries.
Nottingham Forest predicted lineup vs Tottenham Hotspur: (4-2-3-1): Sels; Williams, Milenkovic, Murillo, Moreno; Dominguez, Anderson; Sosa, Gibbs-White, Hudson-Odoi; Wood.
Bet hereNottingham Forest have an advantage in this game and we expect them to either win or draw.
Despite losing their last two matches (against Everton and Aston Villa), Forest will be favoured to get back on the winning track against Spurs, who have been one of the poorest defensive units this season.
The return of Chris Wood to the attacking unit will give Forest a big boost, and the New Zealander will be keen on getting onto the scoresheet.
Forest have not been victorious at this venue yet, and this game offers them the best opportunity to do so.
Spurs’ lack of defensive cohesion has been much talked about, and it will be a shocker to see them mark their opponents closely in this outing. They have already conceded a whopping 49 goals so far in the Premier League this season.
Ramon Sosa has the most shots on target per match for Nottingham Forest (1.8) and will play a big part for them in the attacking third.
Since Son is doubtful, Richarlison and Maddison will prove to be the biggest threats for the home team.
Richarlison, formerly of Everton, scored a goal for his club in their last Premier League game and will be keen on disrupting Forest’s best clean sheet record in the competition.
With the presence of so many top attackers in their ranks, it is certain that we will see both teams getting onto the scoresheet (BTTS).
