Sheffield United’s relegation back to the second tier was officially determined last weekend, but they will be looking to end the campaign on a high note. They could increase the chances of Nottingham Forest joining them in the second tier by claiming victory at Bramall Lane this weekend.
It has been a forgettable season in the top-flight for Sheffield United this term. Their relegation back to the second tier was made official last weekend following a humbling 5-1 defeat on the road against Newcastle United. But, Chris Wilder was keen to emphasis that he hopes the experience of this season could be something that can be built on in the Championship.
The Blades have already made a number of unwanted records this term, including the fact that they broke the record for the most goals conceded in a Premier League season. In fact, they are just three goals away from becoming the first team in Premier League history to concede 100 goals in a single campaign. Being back at home could help their chances, but they have still lost eleven times at Bramall Lane this term.
There will be more pressure on the visiting Nottingham Forest this weekend, as they could kick off on Saturday inside the relegation places. Forest currently sit just a point clear of the bottom three places, but they come into this round after losing three of their last four, and each of their previous two in the Premier League.
Only the bottom three sides in the competition have suffered more defeats than Forest this term. Their away record would be a big concern ahead of this match at Bramall Lane, as Forest have recorded just two victories from their 16 matches on the road this term.
Forest have an impressive record in this fixture after avoiding defeat in each of their last five against the Blades across all competitions. They also landed a 2-1 victory in the reverse clash this term. Sheffield United’s most recent win against Forest was achieved in the second tier in April 2019.
The stakes will be huge for Forest this weekend, as they bid to keep their destiny in their own hands. We could see them having too much quality in the final third for the Blades, meaning that the preference is for a rare away victory for Nuno Espirito Santos’ team.
