Roma managed to beat and eventually knock out Porto (4-3 aggregate) in the Europa League thriller. Claudio Ranieri’s men were a better side in the second leg and won 3-2, thanks to a brace from Paulo Dybala.
After the dramatic victory, Roma’s attention will shift to Serie A, where they are currently ninth with 37 points. While the quality of their game has improved notably under the new head coach, they have a lot to do to qualify for the European tournaments.
Ranieri will probably rest some players against Monza. As for injuries, only Renato Marin and Artem Dovbyk are sidelined with injuries. Bryan Cristante will return after serving a suspension.
Roma predicted lineup vs Monza (3-4-2-1): Svilar; Hummels, Mancini, Ndicka; Saelemaekers, Cristante, Paredes, Angeliño; Dybala, Pellegrini; Shomurodov.
Monza’s woes continued to heighten following their goalless draw against Lecce in the last round. Alessandro Nesta’s team are on a five-game winless streak. Sitting in last place with 14 points, they are potential candidates to get relegated to Serie B.
Currently, Monza are seven points behind the safe zone, but given their quality, it looks unlikely they’ll survive. After Lecce, they scored the lowest number of gored (21). The club’s top goalscorer is Dany Mota, who has four goals to his tally.
The visitors will be without their key center-back Armando Izzo, who picked up his 10th yellow card against Lecce. Matteo Pessina, Roberto Gagliardini, Luca Caldirola, Samuele Birindelli, and Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro also sit out.
Monza predicted lineup vs Roma (3-4-2-1): Turati; D’Ambroniso, Carboni, Palacios; Pereira, Urbanski, Bianco, Kyriakopoulos; Mota, Caprari; Ganvoula.
Bet hereRoma might have had an energy-consuming clash against Porto in the Europa League, but they’ll be facing perhaps the weakest team in Serie A. Monza are winless in their last nine away matches in Serie A, losing seven and drawing two.
On the flip side, the home squad are doing significantly better under Claudio Ranieri. Even with less time to rest, they cannot afford to drop valuable points against struggling rivals.
We don’t expect the visitors to put up much resistance on Monday. The hosts will methodically gain the advantage and eventually beat their opponents. Our first pick in the match would be Roma to win with (-1.5) handicap.
While the hosts are obvious favourites, we don’t expect them to play with full force against Monza. The visitors, on the other hand, will mostly sit back in the defence and won’t get too many chances.
If we take a look at the H2H meetings between these two sides, in the previous three encounters, all of them ended with less than three goals. Roma will try to save energy for more crucial matches to come.
Monza have serious issues in the offence, and we don’t think they’ll be able to upset their opponents. Our second pick in this game would be under 2.5 goals.
