Real Valladolid’s season continues to spiral downward. Following the sacking of Mauro Pezzolano on December 1st, the club appointed Diego Martín Cocca in a desperate bid to avoid relegation.
Although Valladolid remain at the bottom of the table, their 1-0 victory over Valencia offered a glimmer of hope that they can still compete. With a goal difference of -25, the club currently hold the unenviable title of the worst team in La Liga. The players have managed just 12 goals while conceding 37 in 18 matches.
Up until last weekend, Valladolid had shown promise in the Copa del Rey, steadily eliminating weaker sides. Drawn against Galician side Ourense CD, they were widely expected to secure victory. However, the match ended in a 3-2 defeat for Valladolid, who were surprisingly passive in the second half.
To add insult to injury, Los Pucelanos star Raúl Moro left the pitch injured. Moro has been one of the team’s few bright spots this season, even earning a place in Spain’s U21 squad. Estonian goalkeeper Karl Hein also left the match injured. Fortunately, his injury isn’t severe, with an initial diagnosis suggesting a one-week absence.
In contrast to Valladolid, Real Betis advanced to the next round of the Copa del Rey with a 1-0 victory over Huesca, courtesy of an Isco strike. Huesca put up an intense fight but failed to breach Los Verdiblancos’ defence.
Betis currently sit 9th in La Liga, with just one win in their last five matches. They drew 1-1 with Rayo Vallecano in their final game of 2024 but secured a vital 2-1 victory over Villarreal. However, they suffered significant defeats to Real Sociedad (2-0) and Valencia (4-2).
In response to their inconsistency this season, the club is looking to strengthen Manuel Pellegrini’s squad. Assane Diao has been linked with a move to Italian side Como, with a deal expected to be finalized in the coming days.
Stefan Bajčetić has emerged as an option, with the club seeking midfield reinforcements following William Carvalho’s injury. Currently on loan at Red Bull Salzburg, the Liverpool midfielder wants more playing time.
Another player linked with Betis is French playmaker Enzo Le Fée. The Roma midfielder is rumoured to have reached an agreement with Los Verdiblancos, though details of the negotiations remain scarce.
Isco’s return, highlighted by his goal against Huesca in the Copa del Rey, is expected to play a pivotal role in Pellegrini’s bid to reclaim a European spot.
Bet hereFew teams can guarantee Real Betis a victory, given their defensive struggles, but Real Valladolid could. With only a month under Cocca’s leadership, Valladolid are still adjusting to his system.
In the meantime, opponents have found it easy to exploit Valladolid’s fragile defence. Raúl Moro’s likely absence further tips the scales in Betis’ favour.
At Betis, all eyes are on Isco, the club’s standout figure. Having recently recovered from a long-term injury, he’s back on the pitch. Central to Pellegrini’s system, Isco remains the team’s most vital player.
Facing a team vulnerable through the central channels, Isco is poised to add to his goal tally.
