Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich Prediction: Champions League Match on 08.05.2024

The race for a place in the Champions League final continues this week, as the recently crowned champions of Spain bid to keep their hopes of a double alive. Real Madrid will have the important home advantage in the return clash on Wednesday, but can they get over the line against Bayern Munich?

Champions League Preview

Real Madrid will be the clear favorites in the betting for this return clash after fighting to a draw in last week’s first leg in Munich. Los Blancos struck late to ensure that the sides go into this second leg on a level playing field, with their equaliser being netted by Vinicius Jr with just seven minutes remaining.

Bayern Munich produced arguably one of their best displays of the season in the first leg, but they were made to pay for costly defensive errors. Harry Kane was once again a standout performer for the Germans after netting their second goal from the penalty spot. However, a response will be expected from the Bavarian giants this week after being humbled by Stuttgart in their most recent Bundesliga outing over the weekend.

The fact that Real Madrid avoided defeat in the first leg could be key, as they have progressed from 18 of their last 19 ties in the Champions League after avoiding defeat in the first meeting. Meanwhile, Los Blancos have now played out draws in each of their last four matches in the competition, which is their longest drawing sequence. But, Real do still boast a dominant record after going eleven without defeat this season.

Bayern Munich don’t have the best defensive record in this fixture after conceding in each of their last 16 matches against Real Madrid. In fact, their last clean sheet against Los Blancos in the competition came in May 2001. Thomas Tuchel will also be looking to make history this week, as he could become the first coach in the competition’s history to lead three different teams to the final.

Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich Team News

Bayern Munich will be without a number of key players for this important second leg, with defenders Eri Dier, Matthijs de Ligt, and Sacha Boey all set to miss out. Kingsley Coman and Raphael Guerreiro will also miss this first leg, with both unlikely to make the final if Bayern gain a victory on Wednesday.

Carlo Ancelotti will be pleased with the shape of his squad, as Real Madrid have no fresh injury concerns ahead of this return leg on Wednesday.

Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich Head-to-Head

Real Madrid’s record in this fixture is incredibly reliable, as they have gone eight without a defeat against Bayern Munich. The Spanish side have recorded six wins across that period, with last week’s draw being one of just two over the same period.

Real are also seven without a defeat in home matches against Bayern, recording six victories. Ancelotti has also avoided defeat in all nine of his matches against Bayern in Champions League history.

Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich Prediction

Bayern Munich caused problems for Real last weekend, but they were made to pay after making defensive issues. Their growing injury list in terms of defensive injuries would be a concern ahead of this return leg, while Real will be full of confidence after wrapping up the La Liga title over the weekend. Therefore, we could see the Spanish side improving their excellent record against their German rivals by landing a 3-1 success in the Spanish capital to reach another European Cup final.
