Rayo Vallecano’s European dream is slowly unraveling after the 3-0 defeat to Atlético de Madrid, which leaves them 11th in La Liga. A positive result was needed to stay in the race. They now find themselves three points behind 8th-placed Osasuna.
The team have only won one match in their previous five, a 2-0 victory over 17th-placed Deportivo Alavés. Since then, Rayo lost to Espanyol (0-4) and drew with Valencia (1-1. It’s no wonder they’re so far behind.
Andrei Ratiu and Augusto Batalla are suspended for Friday’s game. Jonathan Montiel and Abdul Mumin will be sidelined due to injuries. Sergio Camello is still waiting for medical clearance.
Rayo Vallecano Predicted line-up vs Getafe (4-2-3-1): Cardenás; Espino, Ciss, Lejeune, Balliu; Valentin, López; García, Díaz, Isi; Guardiola.
A month ago, Getafe used to pride itself on impressive performances, but the team dropped back to 12th after winning only one game in their last five. They scored four past Valladolid. However, they’ve been struggling and have only found the back of the net in their previous three meetings.
Impressively enough, this did not stop Getafe from dominating in xG against Real Madrid (2.36) despite recording less than 40% possession. Real Madrid had low morale after the Champions League elimination and had quite a few injuries.
To general surprise, Getafe bowed down to Espanyol (0-1), a side that were also in the relegation fight but have become one of the best in Spain since the Winter break. It’s partly because of injuries and suspension, which prevented head coach José Bordalas from finding continuity in his starting XI.
Christantus Uche and Álvaro Rodríguez are suspended for the game. Allan Nyom and Diego Rico will be out with injuries.
Getafe Predicted line-up vs Rayo Vallecano (5-4-1): Soria; Iglesias, Alderete, Duarte, Berrocal, Djené; Bernat, Milla, Arambarri, Terrats; Mayoral.
Bet hereThere are rare occasions I would bet on Rayo to defeat Getafe, and this is one of them. The visitors will be without Uche, who could be considered the team’s most important forward. On top of that, injuries to Rico and Nyom only favour Vallecano.
However, as has often been the case in the past, we’re unlikely to see a flying Rayo due to Getafe’s defense.
Without Uche, the hosts will have one less defender to worry about. On the other hand, they won’t have their starting goalkeeper, Batalla. Vallecano will also be without Ratiu, whose attacking contribution should not be underestimated.
Looking at their form, Getafe seem to be in a slightly worse position, since they lack the home advantage.
Isi Palazón may not be the youngest anymore, but his tactical soundness and technical prowess have kept him in the starting XI, season after season. With little quality in the attack and a stadium known for its excellent atmosphere, Palazón could torment Getafe’s block. His importance increases in the absence of Ratiu, potentially leading him to score.
