Paris Saint-Germain vs Inter Preview and Team News

Paris Saint-Germain Team News

After defeating Arsenal in London and at home, Paris Saint-Germain have secured their qualification for the Champions League final. This only marks their second appearance in the club’s history.

The first time was in 2020, under the guidance of German coach Thomas Tuchel. Since the Qatari takeover over ten years ago, the main focus of the new owners had been to claim the Champions League title, after attracting stars like Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr and Kylian Mbappé

However, so far this has not yielded any tangible UCL results.

Paris Saint-Germain claimed yet another Coupe de France title after they defeated Reims 3-0. Bradley Barcola scored a brace in three minutes in the first half, followed by a goal from Achraf Hakimi.

This final match against Inter presents the opportunity for Luis Enrique to claim another Champions League title, after he won the trophy with Barcelona in 2015. Although Enrique was criticised for his rigidity in recent seasons, this has not been the case this season, thanks to his attacking strategy.

Paris Saint-Germain have not lost since their 2-1 defeat against Strasbourg, with Paris focusing on the semi-final tie against Arsenal.

Presnel Kimpembe will miss the final as he is sidelined due to injury.

Inter News

Inter wasn’t able to defend their Serie A title, finishing the season with 81 points, just one point behind Antonio Conte’s Napoli.

This result marked a shift in the club’s priorities, as the domestic title used to be the most important trophy for the Nerazzuri. However, Inzaghi decided to continue to hunt for the UCL title after coming close to winning it two years ago. Inter reached the final but lost 1-0 to Manchester City.

The end of the season was marked by matches lacking intensity, leading Inter to concede several draws in the final months of their Serie A campaign.

Inter validated their ticket to the final in an epic duel against Barcelona, who had been leading the second leg till extra time. However, a 4-3 victory allowed Inzaghi’s team to reach the UCL final.

Inter depends on the Thuram-Martínez partnership up front, while using advanced wing-backs as a trigger when pressing high.

Valentin Carboni will be sidelined due to injury, while Benjamin Pavard, Yann Aurel Bisseck, and Piotr Zieliński are awaiting medical clearance.

Inter predicted line-up vs Paris Saint-Germain

Inter predicted line-up vs Paris Saint-Germain (3-5-2): Sommer; Bastoni, Acerbi, De Vrij; Dimarco, Mkhitaryan, Calhanoglu, Barella, Dumfries; Thuram, Martínez.

Paris Saint-Germain vs Inter Head-to-Head Statistics

Paris Saint-Germain and Inter have only met on five occasions, three of which ended in a PSG victory, while Inter have won one game. They also drew once.

However, it should be noted that PSG’s most recent victory against Inter dates back to 2016. Serge Aurier and Layvin Kurzawa scored for Paris, while Stevan Jovetić scored Inter’s only goal.

Inter defeated PSG in 2023, though it was on the occasion of a club friendly. Vitinha opened the scoring in the 63rd minute, but goals from Sensi and Esposito orchestrated Inter’s comeback.

Paris Saint-Germain vs Inter Player Focus

Ousmane Dembélé has been PSG’s most important forward this season, registering 33 goals in 48 appearances. Injuries and inconsistency had been a major problem in his spell at Barcelona, but most of his troubles seem to be in the past.

Dembélé has been at the center of PSG’s attack under Luis Enrique, while unexpectedly becoming one of Europe’s most prolific goalscorers. He has also partnered well with Bradley Barcola, allowing Enrique to play with two athletic players up front.

On Inter’s side, a case could be made between Martínez and Thuram. However, the latter is our pick due to his physical dominance. Much of his work is behind the scenes, freeing space for Martínez. However, his physical profile is likely to be more effective than Martínez’ technical profile.

Paris Saint-Germain vs Inter Analysis

Although PSG have been hailed as an offensive team, this is a reductive analysis of the team’s performance in the Champions League.

The team is filled with technical profiles, which allows PSG to keep attacking until the opposition breaks down. This is what they are likely to attempt against Inter, a team that deploys a three-man-at-the-back formation, therefore more susceptible to 1v1 situations advantageous to PSG.

On the other hand, Inter have demonstrated they are capable of defending against the best, which includes Barcelona. The team has noticeably been a ‘tricky’ team due to their tactical diversity, deploying a high line or a deep block depending on the team’s needs. Inzaghi’s half-time tactical adjustments have also played their role in Inter’s Champions League campaign, making it an ‘adaptable’ team.

Paris Saint-Germain vs Inter Prediction

  • Prediction: Paris Saint-Germain to win
  • Odds: 2.195 (22Bet)
  • Score Prediction: Barcelona 2-1 Villarreal

Paris Saint-Germain have never won the Champions League to date. The last time they landed a spot in the final, they lost to Bayern Munich, deemed the favourite at the time. This is not the case of this final, where PSG have been designated favourites since the beginning of the knock-out rounds.

The doubts over Pavard and Bisseck’s presence favour a Paris win, with both defenders being key in Inter’s defensive approach. PSG are likely to storm Inter’s backline until an individual mistake grants them a goal.

Although Inter defeated Barcelona, they demonstrated their struggles against fast-paced attackers, favouring Dembélé and Barcola.

Paris Saint-Germain vs Inter Betting Tip

  • Pick: Ousmane Dembélé to score
  • Odds: 2.65 (22Bet)

Dembélé has been hailed one of the best forwards of the season by a majority of the community on Twitter, redeeming himself from previous seasons where he struggled to score (especially during his first months in Paris). These ghosts are long gone, and with the support of Barcola, Dembélé will be expected to lead the wolf pack against Inter.
