The competitive action in North America’s top football competition continues this weekend with a fascinating showdown between Inter Miami and New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium. The visitors will be hoping to extend their lead at the top of the standings.
It has been a contrasting start to the season for these two MLS sides, with Inter Miami and the Revolution currently locked at opposite ends of the standings. Inter Miami come into this round at the top of the table after winning half of their ten matches this term, but they have played a game more than the four sides below them in the current standings.
But, Miami have been the best attacking team in the competition to this point after netting a staggering 22 goals. However, they will need to improve defensively if they are to win a first MLS title after allowing 15 goals across their opening 15 matches. Inter landed a second straight win across all competitions last weekend with a 3-1 home success over Nashville. Lionel Messi netted a brace in that success, while there was also a goal for his former Barcelona teammate Sergio Busquets.
Meanwhile, it has been a challenging start to the season for New England, as their playoff hopes already appear incredibly slim at this stage of the campaign. The home side comes into this round of matches sitting bottom of the Eastern Conference standings after winning just once in their opening eight matches this term.
Meanwhile, they have already suffered six defeats. The Revolution have the worst attacking record in the competition at this stage after netting just five goals. However, they do have a better defensive record than Miami after allowing 14 goals so far this season.
The Revolution have won two of their last three matches against Inter, and they have suffered just one home defeat in three fixtures against their rivals. The latest meeting between the sides ended in a 3-1 success for the hosts in June 2023. However, Inter have also won three of the last five, which includes an away success in November 2021.
Inter Miami have made a very strong start to the new season, and it could be challenging to see that start being halted against the Revolution this weekend. Therefore, the preference is for an away victory in the MLS.
