Napoli and Milan, who share one of the oldest rivalries in Italian football, will meet each other in a hotly-contested clash in round 30 of the Serie A on Sunday.
Being the home team, Napoli will have a slight upper hand, as is seen by their being ranked second in the league table.
They are just three points shy from Inter Milan, who are ranked first, and this points towards a showdown in the business end of the league, which is soon approaching.
Napoli have won just one match out of their last five, and this is not something they would want to have on their record; a win against Milan will set them up nicely while challenging for the Serie A title.
David Neres is the only player who seems doubtful for this game owing to a muscle injury. Napoli have scored 6 goals in their last 5 matches and are also ranked 3rd at home this season.
Both these stats will give them confidence, but they know it all too well that they need to change the former just a little bit.
They need to be more prolific in the final third and perhaps Belgium international and former Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku can help them out. He has created the most big chances for Napoli (7).
Napoli predicted lineup vs Milan: (3-5-2): Meret; Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Buongiorno; Politano, Gilmour, Lobotka, McTominay, Spinazzola; Raspadori, Lukaku.
Milan, one of the biggest teams in Europe, seem to have drifted past their days of glory this season.
Currently, they are ranked in the ninth position of the league table with three losses in their last five outings – this does not bode well for the visitors ahead of a high-profile showdown with Napoli.
In the attacking third, there have been no complaints for Milan as they have scored 8 goals in their last 5 matches.
Rafael Leão has created the most big chances for Milan (8), and he has had a major role to play for them while building up play as well.
The visitors will be keen on brushing their defensive skills off ahead of this game as they haven’t kept a clean sheet in 6 matches.
If they fail to mark Napoli’s attackers, especially Lukaku, they will be in for a long night completely at the mercy of their opponents.
While their most recent 3-2 and 2-1 wins over Lecce and Como were narrow, they would have given the side from the red half of Milano the confidence to look Napoli in the eye.
Milan predicted lineup vs Napoli: (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Hernandez, Thiaw, Gabbia, Walker; Musah, Bondo; Leão, Reijnders, Pulisic; Gimenez.
Bet hereNapoli, playing at home, have an advantage over Milan. We expect them to either win or draw this game. Out of the 32 recorded encounters between these two teams, Napoli have won or drawn 23.
This gives them a massive advantage, and the hosts will not be keen on throwing it away.
At home, Napoli’s record becomes even more staggering – they have been unbeaten in 11 out of the 15 matches played between the two clubs. In the Serie A, at home, Napoli have beaten Milan on six out of 14 occasions.
Napoli and Milan both boast of a lot of attractive attackers who can take the game to their opponents and evade being marked for long periods of time.
While Lukaku will be the flagbearer for Napoli in this game, Leão will be the player to watch out for in Milan’s colours.
These teams are known to expose their defence while pushing forth in attack, and this allows attackers to remain under the radar, get on the ball and create chances while also involving their teammates.
