Since Monza’s promotion to Italy’s top flight in 2022-2023, they’ve consistently finished in mid-table positions. This summer, they hired Italian legend Alessandro Nesta to take the club further. However, his defensive shortcomings have left the club in the relegation zone, currently 19th out of 20 in Serie A.

The Old Lady are the last remaining unbeaten team in the league, yet they sit a disappointing sixth. They’ve managed six wins from 16 matches, with the other 10 ending in draws.

Thiago Motta’s focus on an attacking approach has left his team vulnerable at the back. His rigid tactics have made the Old Lady inefficient in the final third. With struggles on both ends, this has become a recipe for disaster.

The Old Lady may lack cohesion as a team, but their individual quality often bails them out.
