Borussia Dortmund and Monterrey meet each other in a round-of-16 clash in the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup on Wednesday. The German squad are unbeaten in this tournament so far, drawing their first game against Fluminense but winning the following two against Mamelodi Sundowns and Ulsan HD.

For Wednesday’s match, they have a lot of injury concerns, including those of Emre Can, Jamie Gittens, Nico Schlotterbeck, and Salih Ozcan. More worryingly still, their star player, Julian Brandt, is a doubtful starter owing to a broken wrist.

Borussia, however, have enough reserves on their side to put up a fighting performance against Monterrey. The German club are in excellent form and showcased an xG of 3.42 in their previous encounter, against Ulsan. In that same game, their passing accuracy was an impressive 90%.

Coach Domenec Torrent likes to play with a fluid midfield, which changes from four men in a straight line to 1-2-1 when they have the ball. The purpose of this tactic is to provide a shield in front of the defenders so that their opponents are unable to breach into their box.
