Man United finally got back to winning ways in the league in midweek with a success against Sheffield United. However, they will need to maintain that momentum this weekend against relegation-threatened Burnley to put the pressure on Tottenham.
It has been a challenging season for Man United, and the questions continue to be asked surrounding the long-term future of Erik Ten Hag, despite booking a spot in the FA Cup final last weekend. The Red Devils sit sixth in the standings at present, and they are seven points adrift of Tottenham, having played a game more than their rivals.
United have lost just once across their last five, but their only success over that period was achieved against Sheffield United on Wednesday. The Red Devils needed to come from behind on two occasions, before comfortably recording a 4-2 success. Bruno Fernandes was the star man for United, netting two important goals to take his goal involvements for the current campaign to a staggering 26.
This will also be an important weekend for Burnley, as the Clarets have seen an upturn in their form, which leaves them within a victory of joining Nottingham Forest on 26 points. Burnley have recorded one victory over their last five matches, but they have suffered just a single defeat over the period.
However, the Clarets don’t have a very solid record against the best teams in the competition. Burnley have won just once in 32 league matches against sides that finished the previous season in the top four positions. Their only win was achieved at Anfield in January 2021. Since then, they are winless in their last 18, and they have suffered defeats in each of the previous nine.
Man United have won ten of the last 16 Premier League encounters between the sides, with five draws having been played out. United have scored exactly three goals in all four victories that they have recorded against Burnley at Old Trafford in the league.
The Red Devils will be extremely short in the betting this weekend, despite having allowed the second-most shots in the Premier League this term. We expect Burnley to find the back of the net at Old Trafford, but we could see United eventually coming through to claim maximum points.
