Manchester United continued their four-game winless run across all competitions. In the last Premier League round, they suffered a humiliating away defeat (1-4) to Newcastle and are 14th with 38 points.
With no motivation left in the domestic championship, their only chance to save the season for Ruben Amorim’s side is success in the Europa League. Doing so won’t be easy against in-form Lyon, and despite the draw in the first leg, the hosts have a tough battle ahead.
Following his performance, Andre Onana did not feature against Newcastle and Altay Bayindir took his place. As for other absentees, Lisandro Martinez, Jonny Evans, Amad Diallo, and Matthijs de Ligt sit out.
Manchester United predicted lineup vs Lyon (3-4-2-1): Bayındır; Yoro, Maguire, Lindelof; Dorgu, Eriksen, Ugarte, Dalot; Fernandes, Garnacho; Højlund.
After Paulo Fonseca’s arrival, Lyon have been brilliant on the home front. Following an emphatic victory over Auxerre (1-3), they’re placed fourth with 51 points and have a good chance of qualifying for the Champions League.
However, they’ll chase the trophy in the Europa League. In the first match, they survived a scare in stoppage time, where Rayan Cherki netted the 95th-minute equaliser.
Lyon are almost completely fit for the upcoming fixture. Among the two most notable absentees, we can mention Belgian Malick Fofana and Ernest Nuamah. In the attack, we expect Georges Mikautadze to start from the first minute.
Lyon predicted lineup vs Manchester United (4-3-3): Perri; Maitland-Niles, Mata, Niakhate; Tagliafico; Tolisso, Matic, Veretout; Cherki, Mikautadze, Almada.
Bet hereUnited’s season was a disastrous one, and it’s now guaranteed that they’ll finish the Premier League with the lowest points in history. They must concentrate on the return match, but even playing at home, they’re not obvious favourites.
While Andre Onana has already made significant errors, the major problem for Manchester is their defensive performance.
The guests, on the other hand, are enjoying perfect form and can upset their opponents in this clash. The hosts have a difficult time containing the visitors’ fast forwards, and thus, our first pick here would be Lyon or a draw.
While Manchester United have struggled to keep a clean sheet, Lyon have experienced the same in recent games. To illustrate, they’ve conceded in five consecutive matches across all competitions.
In the previous H2H, we saw an attacking display from both clubs, with a lot of moments created. The same is likely to happen here, as the hosts have nothing to focus on after they failed in other tournaments.
Rasmus Højlund will try to score his sixth Europa League goal. In Lyon, Georges Mikautadze has been brilliant, scoring four and assisting five in the competition. We suggest picking the following option: both teams to score.
