They currently sit at the top of the standings at this early stage, as they have won five of their opening six matches in the competition. Leverkusen have been in excellent recent form, and they will be chasing a third straight victory to stay top of the league table this weekend. Alonso’s side were in excellent form last weekend, as they landed a comfortable 3-0 win on the road against Mainz. They are one of three teams that are still looking for their first victory of the 2023-24 season, and they have picked up just a single point from their opening six fixtures. 

Köln’s fortunes haven’t looked like improving in recent weeks, as they come into this match after losing for the third game running last weekend. Their most recent defeat was inflicted in front of their home fans, as Stuttgart eventually secured a 2-0 win. However, Köln’s performance in that defeat was much more encouraging.
