All eyes will be on the race for promotion from the Championship this week, as Leicester play their penultimate home match of the campaign against Southampton. A victory for the Foxes could see them move five points clear at the summit.
A thrilling race for promotion in England’s second tier continues this week, as two of the top four teams in the competition collide. Leicester City will have home field advantage after bouncing back to winning ways against West Brom on Saturday to end a two-game losing sequence. A victory could leave them five points clear at the top.
Southampton’s recent upturn in form was halted in their previous outing, as their three-game winning sequence was ended with a defeat at Cardiff. That means that their promotion chances are out of their hands, but a victory over the Foxes this week would take them to within two points of the automatic promotion spots.
Enzo Maresca has done an excellent job at Leicester this term, with much of their success being down to their record at the King Power Stadium. The manager has overseen the club winning 15 of their 20 home matches this term, which is the most of any Leicester boss since 1910.
Southampton will be wary of their poor record against the top teams in the division this season. The Saints have picked up the fewest points per game in matches between the top four, but their record is only marginally better than Leicester’s. Jamie Vardy could be a player to watch this week. The striker has scored seven goals against the Saints during his career.
Leicester have recorded just two wins in their last seven home league matches against the Saints, with all three of their defeats coming by a 2-1 margin. The Saints were beaten 4-1 in the reverse fixture between the sides in September, but they haven’t lost both league meetings against the Foxes in the same season since 2011-12.
A thrilling race for promotion continues on Tuesday, and cases can still be made for all four teams in the race for the automatic spots. Leicester gave up a lot of chances in their recent win against West Brom, meaning that a chance could be taken on the Saints to gain victory this week.
