Ipswich vs Tottenham Preview and Team News

Ipswich Team News

Ipswich Town have endured a challenging run in recent weeks. Their last four outings have been testaments to their defensive frailties and an inability to impose themselves. On January 19, they suffered a heavy 6-0 defeat against Manchester City, exposing gaps in organisation and discipline at the back.

This was followed by a 1-4 loss to Liverpool on January 25 and to Southampton 1-2 on February 1. Ipswich struggled in midfield, and the team’s lack of defensive cohesion was starkly evident.

A brief glimmer of hope appeared in a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa on February 15, yet even that result did little to mask their ongoing vulnerability.

In my opinion, the club’s main problem remains unchanged. The level of players on their team is not enough to be successful in the Premier League. It’s only thanks to the coaching talent of manager Kieran McKenna that Ipswich still have a chance to save themselves from relegation to the Premiership this season.

Injuries have compounded the team’s issues. Key players Conor Chaplin and Christian Walton are battling knocks. Axel Tuanzebe is suspended for Saturday’s match due to his red card against Aston Villa. Ipswich’s options remain limited.

McKenna is expected to line up a side determined to adopt a compact, counter-attacking setup in a bid to salvage points and climb out of the relegation zone.

Ipswich predicted lineup vs Tottenham (4-2-3-1): Palmer; Godfrey, O’Shea, Greaves, Davis; Morsy, Cajuste; Philogene, Hutchinson, Clarke; Delap.

Tottenham Team News

Tottenham enter this fixture buoyed by a recent revival in form. A 1-0 victory over Manchester United on February 16 provided a significant boost.

However, injury woes continue to cast a long shadow over Ange Postecoglou’s side. Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Richarlison, and Dominic Solanke have been ruled out for early March. It’s a setback that removes one of Tottenham’s key players.

On a positive note, critical midfield figures like Rodrigo Bentancur and dynamic playmaker James Maddison are declared fit. Also, Kevin Danso appears to have shaken off a minor knock ahead of the clash.

So, Postecoglou can opt for a tactical shift emphasizing high pressing and swift transitions, utilizing the pace of Son and the creativity of Maddison to exploit a weak Ipswich defence.

Tottenham predicted lineup vs Ipswich (4-2-3-1): Vicario; Porro, Gray, Danso, Spence; Bentancur, Bissouma; Maddison, Kulusevski, Tel; Son.

Ipswich vs Tottenham Prediction

  • Pick: Tottenham to win
  • Odds: 1.94 (22Bet)
  • Score prediction: Ipswich 1-2 Tottenham

Postecoglou is expected to field a 4-2-3-1 formation that offers both defensive solidity and attacking fluidity. The injury to Solanke will force a reshuffle. Loan signing Mathys Tel is anticipated to lead the line, supported by a trio of attacking midfielders who can stretch defences with incisive passes and pace.

The midfield duo of Bissouma and Bentancur will be crucial in breaking up play and dictating the tempo. Full-backs Pedro Porro on the right and Destiny Udogie on the left will be tasked with providing width and overlapping runs.

The guests’ ability to press high and exploit the spaces behind Ipswich’s defence should ultimately prove decisive. Players like Maddison and Tel will surely make the difference in the final third. My pick is Tottenham receiving their second consecutive win.

Ipswich vs Tottenham Prediction, Betting Tip

  • Pick: First half, Tottenham to win
  • Odds: 2.45 (22Bet)

Statistical analysis indicates that Tottenham’s aggressive pressing and quick transitional play have yielded first-half goals in over 60% of their fixtures.

In contrast, Ipswich Town have struggled to keep a disciplined shape during the opening phases of games. Their defensive record at Portman Road shows they’re particularly vulnerable in the first 45 minutes. The side often concede early when pressed by teams that can exploit the space behind a disorganized backline.

Therefore, we can expect Tottenham to win in the first half.
