There will be a party atmosphere at the San Siro this weekend, as Inter Milan begin to celebrate the league title. However, they will still be looking to maintain their strong form this term when they host Torino in the Italian capital.
It always seemed as though it was a matter of time before Inter were crowned Italian champions once again, and they finally secured their status at the top of the domestic game after securing a 2-1 victory over AC Milan on Monday evening. It was a performance of champions, with Francesco Acerbi and Marcus Thuram finding the net in the success.
The victory was their sixth straight success against their Milan rivals, and they have now netted at least once in each of the last eight first halves against AC Milan. That success secured the Serie A title with five games to spare, and they are now 17 points clear at the summit. Inter have been the dominant force in the competition this term, boasting the best attacking and defensive records.
Torino will be looking to crash the title celebrations this weekend, as they chase vital points in their pursuit of a top half finish in the standings. The Italian club comes into this round of matches after going three without a victory, but they have played out draws in each of their last two outings in Serie A.
Torino played out a second successive 0-0 draws in as many weeks in their previous outing, as they failed to make a breakthrough against Frosinone. Their attacking players will likely be feeding off scraps against one of the most dominant defences in Europe this weekend, and it could be hard to see Torino having much joy in the final third.
Inter have claimed victories in each of their last three matches against Torino without conceding a goal. Meanwhile, the recently crowned Italian champions are unbeaten across their last nine league matches against their rivals since a 1-0 loss on the road in January 2019.
There appears to be nothing stopping this record-breaking Inter outfit at present, as they keep finding a way to win in Serie A. We expect them to have few issues in claiming maximum points this weekend, and we could see them getting the party started in the capital by landing a 3-0 success.
