Inter Milan

Inter Milan currently rank second in Serie A, four points behind Antonio Conte’s Napoli. However, they’ve also played two matches less, meaning two victories would be enough to reclaim the first spot. Inter secured a dull 1-0 win against Venezia in their first match of the 2025 year, wasteful in front of the net with seventeen shots and only registering 1.9xG. 

Simone Inzaghi’s side eliminated Atalanta from the Italian Supercup but were knocked out by their arch-rivals AC Milan in the next round. Tammy Abraham’s goal in the last minutes overturned the team’s 2-1 deficit. 

Milan is the best-attacking side in the league, with 46 goals scored in 18 matches. Only Atalanta come close to their record with 44 goals. 

The club has been linked with 19-year-old Thomas Pérez from Newell’s Old Boys. The contract is expected to be signed in the coming days, but we don’t see him featuring for Inter. He’ll be loaned to other Italian clubs to facilitate his transition to Italian football. 

Milan are also reportedly interested in another player from Newell’s Old Boys, Mateo Silvetti. However, his case isn’t as advanced as Pérez’s. 

Calhanoglu and Mkhitaryan are recovering from injury but it remains unclear whether they’ll be available for the match. 

Bologna

Bologna started the 2025 year with a 2-2 draw against Roma, throwing their 2-1 lead away as Artem Dovbyk converted the penalty in the 90+8th minute. The team dominated possession and the game, producing higher quality chances, but were wasteful at the back.

Defender Sam Beukema has attracted the interest of Liverpool. He confirmed in November that Liverpool coach Arne Slot had contacted him, stating he’d be interested in a move to the Premier League. However, Liverpool’s bid has reportedly been rejected by Bologna, making a winter transition unlikely. 

The team is looking to qualify for European competitions but lacks consistency. They currently occupy 8th place but are one of the best sides away from home, having only lost twice. They have a history of faring well offensively against Inter and will, therefore, look to surprise Milan at San Siro. 

Tommaso Pobega is expected to return to the XI after missing the last match as he served his suspension. Defender Jhon Lucumi will serve his suspension against Inter.

While Milan were defensively solid in the first half of the season, they seemed rusty after the winter break as they unconvincingly defeated Venezia (1-0). Their record against Bologna suggests it won’t be an easy match, with Rossoblù often scoring against them. 

The last match ended in an Inter victory, but the two teams have a mixed record, with Bologna eliminating Milan from the Italian Supercup in December 2023. 

The visitor’s offence has been their focus throughout the season, and with the home side struggling to start the year well, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them bypass Inter’s defence.

Inter Milan vs Bologna Betting Tip

• Pick: Riccardo Orsolini to score

Orsolini is one of Bologna’s most in-form attackers, scoring six goals in 15 matches, often involved in the right wing, close to the touchline. He scored two goals against Venezia (3-2) and has been one of the team’s most decisive players in the final third. 

Given that Inzaghi works with wing-backs, Orsolini’s role as a winger is ideal to hurt Inter in counter-attacks.
