The race for Champions League qualification in the Bundesliga continues on Friday, as RB Leipzig bid to record an important victory to maintain their advantage over Borussia Dortmund. However, it could be an interesting challenge on the road against Hoffenheim.
It has been an excellent second half of the season for RB Leipzig, as the German club bid to confirm their spot in the Champions League positions. They come into this round of fixtures sitting in the prized fourth spot, and their recent form has been excellent after winning each of their last four matches in the Bundesliga.
A huge stride toward securing a top-four finish was made last weekend after coming back from a goal down to land a healthy 4-1 home victory against Borussia Dortmund. Leipzig turned the game on its head before the half time break following goals from Lois Openda and Benjamin Sesko, before further efforts from Mohamed Simakan and Christoph Baumgartner wrapped up a comfortable victory at home.
Hoffenheim will have the home field advantage on Friday evening, and they are still battling for points to secure a finish in the top half of the standings. The German side come into this round of matches sitting in ninth, but they have been hugely inconsistent across their recent outings after losing three of their last five, and winning on just two occasions over that period.
Hoffenheim were edged out in their latest fixture in the competition after conceding three goals inside the opening 64 minutes against Bochum. The German side threatened a late comeback in that clash, but a brace for Andrej Kramaric counted for very little. But, a win this weekend could see them end the round as high as seventh.
Leipzig’s record in this fixture deserves a lot of respect, as they have picked up victories in each of their last four against Hoffenheim. That includes a 3-1 success in the reverse clash this term. Hoffenheim’s only win in their last eleven against Leipzig was achieved at home in November 2021.
Leipzig’s form has gone from strength to strength throughout the second half of the season. We fully expect them to maintain their winning sequence when they travel to Hoffenheim on Friday, and we could see them landing a 3-1 victory on the road against their rivals.
