While Getafe usually avoid relegation by narrow margins, this season has been different. José Bordalas’ men sit 11th in La Liga, winning five of their last eight matches. It’s impressive considering the limited financial resources at his disposal.
Although known for their brutal players, physicality does not explain why Getafe find themselves in 11th place. The low-block has worked wonders in recent months, frustrating the best Spanish clubs.
Getafe stunned Atlético de Madrid (2-1), despite being down 1-0 until the 87th minute. When Los Rojiblancos seemed certain to walk off the pitch with a victory, a brace from Mauro Arambarri, with goals in the 88th minute and additional time, turned the game around.
The team earned a crushing 4-0 victory against Real Valladolid last weekend, which was important to boost morale after the 2-1 defeat to Villarreal.
Djené is still recovering and is awaiting medical clearance for the match.
Getafe Predicted line-up vs Las Palmas (5-4-1): Soria; Rico, Alderete, Duarte, Iglesias, Bernat; Uche, Milla, Arambarri, Terrats; Juanmi.
Despite drawing three events in the last five, Las Palmas remain in the relegation zone with 26 points, four behind 17th-placed Deportivo Alavés.
The team fell to Real Sociedad (3-1), conceding as early as the 4th minute. Although full of decent players on the ball like Alberto Moleiro and José Campaña, Diego Martínez struggled to keep the boat afloat due to a poor pressing scheme. The side keeps conceding game after game, which doesn’t stop Coach Martinez from refusing to throw in the towel.
The 1-1 draw against Celta Vigo a week earlier demonstrated that the side have everything they need to survive in the league. Individual mistakes, however, need to stop for that to happen. Moleiro saved the team with an equaliser in the second half, but this is not sustainable. A victory is urgently needed to lift the squad’s spirits.
Andy Pelmard and Benito need the medical green light to return. Cillessen and Kirian Rodriguez remain sidelined through injuries.
Las Palmas Predicted line-up vs Getafe (4-4-2): Horkas; Marmól, McKenna, Herzog, Viti; Moleiro, Essugo, Muñoz, Ramirez; McBurnie, Silva.
Bet hereGetafe play the opposite style of football to Las Palmas, preferring defence to offense. This has worked out so far for José Bordalas, with his team playing 11th in La Liga.
It would be surprising to see the visitors avoid a defeat in Getafe, given the form of the hosts. With Las Palmas failing to win a single game this year, it’s unlikely to change this weekend.
Getafe’s fortress has always been the Coliseum – with a fitting name. Their defensive tactics and fast transitions against weaker clubs make them a difficult team to navigate.
It’s unlikely they’ll concede against a side that depends on two players for playmaking – Alberto Moleiro and Fabio Silva. In the absence of Jasper Cillessen, looking for goals through more direct play seems more sensible than ever. This could be the chance for long shots – and goals.
