Feyenoord vs Milan Preview and Team News

Feyenoord Team News

Dutch outfit Feyenoord enjoyed a fine Champions League campaign in the opening round. They recorded four wins from their eight matches and only suffered three defeats.

The club come into this first leg of the playoffs after scoring 18 goals in the opening round. They will, however, need to improve defensively after allowing 21 goals, which is the most of any side remaining in the Champions League.

The results in the Dutch Eredivisie have been less convincing. Feyenoord is currently ranked 5th, 12 points behind league leaders Ajax. This resulted in the firing of manager Brian Priske on Monday afternoon. The club had already planned to sack him before the match against Bayern Munich, but the 3-0 victory bought him some extra time. However, after a devastating 6-1 loss in the Champions League against Lille and domestic losses against Ajax and PSV, the 3-0 win against Sparta Rotterdam was not enough for Priske to maintain his seat in the dugout. Against Milan, Pascal Bosschaart, trainer of the Feyenoord U-21 team, will be at the helm as interim.

Feyenoord will be without essential midfielders like Chris-Kevin Nadje and Ramiz Zerrouki on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Calvin Stengs and Justin Bijow are in a race against time to be ready for the second leg. Gernot Trauner faces a late fitness test.

Feyenoord predicted lineup vs Milan (4-3-3): Wellenreuther; Bueno, Beelen, Hancko, Hartman; Moder, Hwang, Timber; Hadj-Moussa, Carranza, Paixão.

Milan Team News

Milan are one of the big hitters to find themselves in the playoff round of the Champions League. The Italian club finished 13th in the overall standings after losing on the final matchday. Despite that defeat, they’ve won four of their previous five games but continue to have attacking issues, scoring just 14 goals.

Tammy Abraham is fit to feature, while Santiago Giménez is also likely to offer competition in the forward area to the Englishman. Emerson Royal could be fit to feature after recovering from a calf injury. Yacine Adli is also fit after an ankle injury. Ruben Loftus Cheek is likely to be out until at least the second leg.

Milan predicted lineup vs Feyenoord (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Walker, Tomori, Pavlović, Hernández; Fofana, Reijnders; Musah, Félix, Leão; Abraham.

Feyenoord vs Milan Prediction

  • Pick: The Draw
  • Odds: 3.36 (22Bet)
  • Score prediction: Feyenoord 1-1 Milan

A close encounter is set for Wednesday. Milan have registered an average xG of 1.48 on the road this season, normalising 1.45 goals per match. Feyenoord have put on their best displays in front of their fans. The Dutch squad have won 60% of their home fixtures this season, averaging 2.1 goals per game and conceding an xGA of 0.92 and 1.1 goals per event.

An interesting trend to consider before making a Feyenoord vs Milan prediction is that the Italian side have failed to win any of their last four fixtures against their Dutch opposition. Interestingly, three matches over that period ended in draws. That could be an angle worth thinking about this week.

Feyenoord vs Milan Prediction, Betting Tip

  • Pick: Under 2.5 Goals
  • Odds: 2.17 (22Bet)

A cagey opening leg to this knockout tie is likely on Wednesday. Milan have conceded a higher goal per event average in their away fixtures this season, while Feyenoord have a strong defensive record in home encounters after allowing an average of just 1.1 goals per game. Therefore, under 2.5 goals could be the sound prediction in a low-scoring affair.
