Everton vs Manchester City Preview and Team News

Everton Team News

Everton, who were struggling earlier in the relegation battle, host defending champions Manchester City in the 33rd round of the Premier League on Saturday.

With David Moyes being appointed as manager midway through the season, the squad’s hopes seem to have been rejuvenated, especially after strong showings from their defensive unit.

Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has been among the top performers on the team lately. The collective showings have ensured that Everton are ranked 13th in the league table, far from the drop zone.

Moyes will surely be credited with this revival, but Everton’s attacking unit have constantly shown why they cannot be ruled out.

Their most recent 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest, who are in line for a Champions League berth next season, proves this very point.

For Saturday’s game, talismanic striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is sidelined with an injury. Jesper Lindstrom and Orel Mangala are also unavailable.

Everton predicted lineup vs Manchester City (4-2-3-1): Pickford; O’Brien, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Patterson; Gueye, Garner; Ndiaye, Doucoure, McNeil; Beto.

Manchester City Team News

Manchester City will be the first to admit that they have not been in their best form this season.

With them all but certain to miss out on retaining their title in this campaign and handing it over to foes Liverpool, all that remains is for them to secure a Champions League berth for their next campaign.

With star striker Erling Haaland ruled out until May, Manchester City’s attacking chances have suffered despite youngster Marmoush stepping up.

Ederson and John Stones – both crucial members of the team – are doubtful starters for this weekend. Phil Foden too picked up a knock recently, while Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake are definitely sidelined.

Manager Pep Guardiola will have his hands full with so many injuries, and will hope that the youngsters who are selected for this match showcase their true mettle.

Man City come into this game on the back of a whopping 5-2 win over Crystal Palace last week, and this is bound to give them a lot of confidence.

Everton vs Manchester City Prediction

  • Pick: Manchester City to win
  • Odds: 1.91 (22Bet)
  • Score prediction: Everton 1-2 Manchester City

Despite the high odds against them, Manchester City are the favourites to win this game. We expect them to do so without batting an eyelid.

However, it will be a big challenge for them to keep a clean sheet given how many top defenders they’re missing.

Ake, Akanji, and Stones are the backbone of the guests’ defensive wall, and all of them are injured. The team have beaten Everton in 19 out of the 32 meetings recorded between these sides. This historical fact may well come to their advantage.

The hosts have only won six encounters against City in the past, and this poor record will hamper them. With Calvert-Lewin sidelined, it seems highly unlikely that they’ll challenge the visitors in the attacking third.

Everton vs Manchester City Prediction, Betting Tip

  • Pick: Both teams to score
  • Odds: 1.69 (22Bet)

We expect both teams to get on the scoresheet in this game, given the quality of attackers in their respective lineups.

While Everton may seem a tad poorer than Manchester in this regard, they’ll be able to exploit the gaps in their opponents’ defence just like Crystal Palace did on April 12.

Dwight McNeil has created the most big chances for the hosts (9), and Beto has the most shots on target per event (1.4). Both these players will be tasked with disrupting City’s defence and making them run helter-skelter.

The visitors have scored in their last eight matches at Goodison Park, and aren’t expected to break tradition.

Ranked fifth in the league table, City are still not certain of a Champions League berth next term, and will have to go all out for victory this weekend. This can only be achieved via scoring goals.
