Lee Carlsey made an excellent start to life in the England hot seat, as the former Everton star landed a 2-0 success in Dublin on Saturday.
The Three Lions were workman-like in Ireland, with much of the heavy lifting done in the opening 45 minutes against their fierce rivals. However, for as good as England were in the opening half, they were as underwhelming in the second period.
The Three Lions went ahead through former Ireland international Declan Rice after eleven minutes before another former Irish senior player, Jack Grealish, added the second before the half-hour mark.
Despite a stuttering performance in the second period, there were still bright moments, including senior debuts for both Morgan Gibbs-White and Angel Gomes.
Finland’s chances of success look extremely slim, especially given the manner in which they were beaten in their Nations League opener on Saturday. Finland were poor from start to finish against Greece, and they couldn’t argue that they deserved anything other than a 3-0 loss.
Finland managed to record just a single shot on target in that loss, despite having 55% of the possession. Chances will be at a minimum for the nation at Wembley on Tuesday, and they are unlikely to enjoy as much possession as they did in Greece over the weekend.
Bet hereIt appears hard to overlook the Three Lions when making an England vs Finland prediction this week. England have gone eleven without loss against their rivals, winning on nine occasions. We could see Carsley’s side enjoying a straightforward homecoming in their first match at Wembley since the EURO 2024 final defeat.
Bukayo Saka has enjoyed an excellent start to the new Premier League season after recording four goal involvements in three matches.
The Arsenal star will be a vital component of the England team once again at Wembley on Tuesday, and he could be a standout selection to net a second goal in his last nine appearances.
