Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa Preview and Team News

Crystal Palace Team News

Crystal Palace meet Aston Villa in the semifinal of the FA Cup this Saturday. Both teams have earned the right to be at this stage of the tournament, but one of them must be knocked out by the end of the evening. The other will make their way to the prestigious final, to be played at the same venue later this year.

Palace, known for their wingers’ attacking runs in the final third, will have to weave their way through the thick defensive net spread by Villa’s defenders. Their midfielders must be on top of their game and ensure that transitions are created flawlessly from defence to attack.

Ben Chilwell is not available due to an illness, while Chadi Riad and Cheick Doucoure have been ruled out with knee injuries.

Nonetheless, Palace, who won their quarterfinal against fellow London club Fulham by a 3-0 scoreline, will aim to do the same again this weekend.

Crystal Palace predicted lineup vs Aston Villa

Crystal Palace predicted lineup vs Aston Villa: (3-4-2-1): Henderson; Lerma, Lacroix, Guehi; Munoz, Hughes, Wharton, Mitchell; Sarr, Eze; Mateta.

Aston Villa Team News

Aston Villa, reeling under the narrow 1-2 Premier League loss they suffered to Man City midweek, will be hungry to make a comeback quickly. They also know they have a slight upper hand owing to the squad they possess. However, they’ll not take things for granted and will try to dominate proceedings from the first minute.

Villa were almost through to the semifinal of the UEFA Champions League. However, they were deflected by Paris Saint-Germain in the quarterfinal despite winning the second leg 3-2.

Attacker Marcus Rashford, who’s on loan from Man United, has been a revelation for the club in the second half of the season. He’ll be expected to turn up this weekend as well. The visitors have a solid defensive unit, which should keep a check on Palace’s straying attackers in the final third.

Manager Unai Emery will be pleased that he doesn’t have too many injuries to worry about. He’ll be able to select his best possible starting XI on Saturday.

Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa Prediction

  • Pick: Aston Villa to win or draw
  • Odds: 1.35 (22Bet)
  • Score prediction: Crystal Palace 1-1 Aston Villa

The hosts have an advantage over their opponents in this game, and we expect them to either win or draw. Villa have won or drawn 10 out of 19 matches recorded between the sides, giving them another slight advantage.

While Eberechi Eze will be a player whom Palace can count upon to deliver under pressure, Villa have Rashford in their ranks. He’s known to do well when the going gets tough. The home squad are also a more dominant attacking side, and this will weigh heavily in their favour.

Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa Prediction, Betting Tip

  • Pick: Both teams to score
  • Odds: 1.76 (22Bet)

Attacker Donyell Malen, who’ll be expected to come off the bench, is another player who can cause damage for Villa. Ollie Watkins also remains a threat.

For Palace, Jean-Philippe Mateta will be the one to watch out for in the final third as he possesses the poacher’s instinct and gets to the right place at the right time.

Both teams have gotten onto the scoresheet in four out of the last five meetings between them. We expect the same to take place here as well.

Palace build play through their wings, whereas Villa are quick on the counter-attack and feed their attackers good balls in the final third.
