Mauricio Pochettino’s plans appear to be getting back on track at Stamford Bridge, as Chelsea go in search of a third straight win across all competitions this weekend. Burnley will have home field advantage, as they look for a second win on the bounce.
It has taken some time but Chelsea appear to be hitting their groove at this stage of the season, and they could move into the top half of the league standings if they are able to pick up victory on the road. Chelsea come into the fixture after winning each of their last two across all competitions.
The Blues picked up a second league win of the season in their most recent fixture, as they landed a 2-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage. Mykhailo Mudryk scored his first Premier League goal in that win, while Armando Broja also found the net in the success. However, Chelsea will be looking for back-to-back wins on the road for the first time since last October at Turf Moor.
Vincent Kompany’s prayers were finally answered in midweek, as the Clarets ended their long wait for a first league win since returning to the Premier League. Burnley were forced to be patient in that fixture, as they eventually sealed maximum points after Jacob Bruun Larsen scored the winning effort with just five minutes remaining of the 90.
However, home form has been a concern for the Clarets over the opening months of the season, as they have lost each of their opening four in Lancashire. Only four previous teams have opened a top flight season with more consecutive home defeats, including most recently, Newcastle United in 2018-19.
Burnley have a very poor record in this fixture, as they have won just once in 16 Premier League fixtures against Chelsea. Their only win was a 3-2 success at Stamford Bridge in August 2017. The Blues have won seven of the eight fixtures between the sides at Turf Moor in the competition.
Chelsea’s season finally got on track with a league win over Fulham on Monday, and it could be worth siding with the Blues to maintain that winning run this weekend. They boast an excellent record in this fixture, and the confidence could get them over the line at Turf Moor.
