Brighton vs Chelsea Preview and Team News

Brighton Team News

Brighton, disappointed after being thrashed 0-7 by Nottingham Forest in the Premier League over the weekend, will hope that all their bad fortune ended with the said game.

They will hope that they can turn their fortunes around in this game in the FA Cup against Chelsea, although their opponents are significantly better, both on paper and form. Still, Brighton cannot be ruled out.

The absence of Kadioglu, Igor, Milner, Steele, March and Wieffer will bind Brighton’s hands in this game, but they will be keen on giving it their all and moving onto the next round.

They come into this round of the competition by beating Norwich City 4-0 in the previous round. Brighton like to attack through the wings, and this trait will be especially pronounced against Chelsea.

Brighton predicted lineup vs Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Verbruggen; Veltman, Dunk, Van Hecke, Lamptey; Baleba, Hinshelwood; Minteh, Pedro, Mitoma; Welbeck.

Chelsea Team News

Chelsea are going through a good run of form, and come into this round of the FA Cup by beating Morecame 5-0 in the previous one. In the Premier League, they defeated London rivals West Ham United 2-1 in their previous game, and will be keen on carrying this form forward.

However, the Blues know that playing away from home, especially on the south coast, is not going to be an easy task.

Chelsea’s 2025 winter transfer window reflected a strategic approach aimed at balancing immediate squad needs with long-term development. The standout acquisition was Mathis Amougou, a promising 19-year-old midfielder from Saint-Étienne, secured for around £12.5 million.

Viewed as a future asset, Amougou was promptly loaned to RC Strasbourg to gain valuable first-team experience. To address defensive concerns, Chelsea recalled Trevoh Chalobah from his loan at Crystal Palace, reinforcing the backline amid an injury crisis.

On the departure front, João Félix sought more consistent playing time and moved on loan to AC Milan for the rest of the season.

Axel Disasi joined Aston Villa on loan, targeting regular first-team action, while Ben Chilwell was loaned to Crystal Palace to regain match fitness. Young talent Carney Chukwuemeka headed to Borussia Dortmund to continue his development in the Bundesliga, and Renato Veiga secured a loan move to Juventus to gain experience in Serie A.

Chelsea have a young-looking squad under manager Enzo Maresca this season, and this has prompted them to play an attractive brand of football that often marries positive intent with recklessness.

However, the likes of Badiashile, David Fofana, Slonina, Lavia and Wesley Fofana will not be available for selection due to injury in this game, and the others in the Chelsea’s squad will have to step up.

Chelsea predicted lineup vs Brighton (4-2-3-1): Sanchez; James, Chalobah, Colwill, Cucurella; Caicedo, Fernandez; Madueke, Palmer, Neto; Jackson.

Brighton vs Chelsea Prediction

  • Pick: Chelsea to win or draw
  • Odds: 1.446 (22Bet)
  • Score prediction: Brighton vs Chelsea

Chelsea have a slight advantage over Brighton in this game, and we expect them to win or draw. The game will then be taken to penalties if it ends in a drawn encounter.

Chelsea have won or drawn 16 out of the 19 games played between the two teams in the past, and will be keen on repeating history this time around as well.

Brighton vs Chelsea Prediction, Betting Tip

  • Pick: Both teams to score
  • Odds: 1.46 (22Bet)

Both these teams have a penchant for getting on the scoresheet often, and hence, we expect them to do so in this game as well. Both Chelsea and Brighton possess attacking players who are known to extract even the slightest of space for themselves in the final third and then act on it to either pass or score.

Chelsea also like to keep possession of the ball and build slowly, and when they do, the results are there for everyone to see. Maresca will not take Brighton lightly in this game, and select his best XI.

The likes of Jadon Sancho and Neto will have big roles to play while linking up with their other attack-minded teammates as well. Four out of the last five matches between these two teams have also seen BTTS.
