There will be an interesting London derby to look ahead to in the Premier League this weekend. Both Brentford and Fulham have already achieved survival, meaning that the emphasis will be on points to finish as high in the standings as possible.
The 2023-24 season is likely one that Brentford will be hoping to forget about in a hurry. They have been struggling at the bottom end of the standings throughout the campaign, and their top-flight status was assured last weekend following Luton’s defeat at Wolves. But, there have been signs of a recent improvement in their league form.
Brentford comes into this derby after losing just once across their last five matches, but their only loss over that period was suffered at Everton last Saturday. Prior to that defeat, the Bees had won two on the bounce. A victory this weekend could lift the Bees back above Everton into 15th. At home they have been more comfortable this term, winning five of their nine matches at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Fulham’s status in the Premier League has been assured for a number of weeks now, but their form has dropped off with very little left to play for. The Cottagers have won just once across their last five matches, and have suffered three defeats over that period. But, they come into this weekend after a battling draw at home against Crystal Palace in their previous fixture.
Many of Fulham’s issues this term have come on the road, as they have lost nine of their 16 matches away from Craven Cottage. Meanwhile, they have recorded just three victories, and have scored eleven fewer goals. But, they were 2-0 winners in their latest match on the road against West Ham.
Brentford have won each of their last two games against Fulham in the Premier League, while they have claimed victories in three of the last four across all competitions. Fulham’s only win in their last four against the Bees was picked up at Craven Cottage last term.
The pressure will be off Brentford this weekend, as they bid to bounce back from their recent defeat against Everton. The trends certainly point to them getting back to winning ways, meaning that we will be siding with a home win for the Bees.
