Bournemouth and Brighton collide in the Premier League on Sunday, with the Cherries having moved above the Seagulls in the recent round of midweek matches. A victory for Bournemouth on Sunday could see them end the round in eighth.
An interesting showdown in the Premier League is set for Sunday, as Bournemouth look to continue their excellent campaign. The Cherries currently sit in the top half of the standings, and they could yet make a late challenge for a finish in the top seven positions. Bournemouth bounced back to winning ways to end a three-game winless sequence against Wolves in midweek.
However, Bournemouth have underperformed in matches played on a Sunday, having lost 67.5% of the matches that they have been involved in. That is the highest loss rate of any team to have played at least ten fixtures on the day of the week. But, it could be worth mentioning that the Cherries are unbeaten in their last five home matches in the competition, winning on three occasions. They have only ever enjoyed a longer unbeaten home sequence on one occasion in the top-flight.
Brighton’s season has been in free fall since the opening months of the campaign, and they come into this weekend in the bottom half of the standings. The Seagulls have gone four matches without a victory before their showdown with City, losing on two occasions across that period.
Like Bournemouth, the Seagulls have also struggled in matches that have been played on a Sunday. Brighton come into the weekend after losing three of their last five matches played on the day of the week, which is as many defeats as they had suffered in their previous 18.
Bournemouth landed victories in four of their first six Premier League matches against the Seagulls. However, they come into this round after losing each of their previous three. Brighton landed a 2-0 win in this fixture last term, and they will be chasing consecutive away wins at Bournemouth for the first time since 1932.
Brighton’s form is a huge concern ahead of this fixture on Sunday. Bournemouth bounced back to winning ways on Wednesday, and their excellent home record could make them the standout selection this weekend.
