Belgium’s golden generation will have one final opportunity to win a major trophy this summer, as Kevin De Bruyne leads Domenico Tedesco’s new-look side. Despite boasting a wealth of talent throughout modern history, Belgium’s best showing at the EUROs came way back in 1980 when they finished as the runners-up.
However, Tedesco could have now stumbled upon the best mix of experience and youth. Belgium enjoyed a dominant qualifying campaign after winning six of their eight matches, and conceding just four goals. But, they will need to bounce back to form at the EUROs after being held to draws against Ireland and England this year. However, the fully fit De Bruyne could prove to be the difference-maker.
Bet hereSlovakia will be competing in their third straight EUROs this summer, but they will be hoping for a better run than they endured in 2020 after crashing out in the group stage. After winning seven of their ten matches, the nation enjoyed a fine qualifying period. That highlighted their best-ever qualifying period for the EUROs.
But, their progression has halted slightly in 2024 after already suffering a defeat against Austria and playing out a draw against Norway. Confidence will be taken from their defensive structure, as they conceded more than once in just one of their qualifying matches.
Their last two matches before the start of the tournament saw them keep clean sheets against San Marino and Wales, with both games ending in a 4-0 win for the Slovaks. Their defensive backbone will now be tested in this international fixture against Belgium.
It is challenging to see Belgium winning the EUROs this summer, but they should at least comfortably pass through Group E. The nation was excellent throughout qualification, and huge positives could have been taken from the success that they enjoyed with their high press against England in March.
It’s likely that Belgium will kick off their EURO campaign with a dominant showing against a vulnerable-looking Slovakian side.

The emphasis will be on Romelu Lukaku to score the goals for Belgium in Germany this summer. The striker endured a testing period in Italy with injuries, but he still ended the campaign with 13 goals in 32 matches.
Lukaku was the main man for his national side in qualifying after netting 14 goals in eight – adding to his staggering total of 85 goals in 115 games – and he looks good value to add to his six goals at the EUROs in this opener, especially when surrounded by Bakayoko and De Bruyne.
