Belgium and Italy meet each other in the first round of the Women’s European Championship on Thursday. The squad will not come into this game with a lot of confidence as they were recently thrashed 0-5 by France in a friendly. Current form has not been very kind to them since they lost three out of their previous six matches. 

The Belgium team are currently ranked 20th in the FIFA rankings, but coach Elísabet Gunnarsdóttir knows that for her women to excel against Italy, they’ll have to focus a lot on passing.

In midfield, Belgium made a lot of errors against France. They looked rather clueless while creating transitions, and this harmed their chances of mounting a serious counter-attack against their opponents. 

If they take too much time on the ball against Italy, they will run the risk of being dispossessed, as their opponents are known for their high pressing tactics. Belgium don’t have any serious absentees.

Most of their attacks, however, come from the flanks, which means they focus on the speed of passing and crossing in order to execute their plans in front of goal. 

Fortunately, coach Soncin doesn’t have too many major injury concerns ahead of Thursday.
