Fiorentina will be aiming to reach a second successive Coppa Italia final this week, and they will have an advantage to they come up against Atalanta. But, which side will come up against either Juventus or Lazio in the showpiece match this term?
There promises to be an exciting semi-final showdown in the Coppa Italia this week, as Atalanta look to overturn a 1-0 disadvantage against Fiorentina. The sides were involved in a nervy clash in Florence at the start of April, with Fiorentina eventually landing a famous 1-0 success following Rolando Mandragora’s goal inside the opening 32 minutes.
Atalanta were below their best in that opening leg, as they managed to record just three shots on target in 90 minutes. It could also be argued that their focus may have been shifted to the Europa League after a stunning quarterfinal success over Liverpool. But, they at least got their domestic form back on track in their latest outing after securing a 2-1 success at Monza.
Atalanta will be looking to reach a third final since 2019, but they have come up short in each of their previous two appearances in the showpiece match. Fiorentina have been an excellent cup side in recent seasons, reaching both the Coppa Italia and Europa Conference League finals last term. The side from Florence are on course to emulate that feat once again this term.
Fiorentina come into this second leg in fairly reliable form after going two domestic matches without a defeat. Their most recent success was picked up on the road against Salernitana on Sunday, with Christian Jouame and Jonathan Ikone netting the late goals in a 2-0 success.
Fiorentina boasts a very solid record against Atalanta based on recent meetings between the sides. They come into this second leg after winning each of the last two across all competitions, and four of the previous six. Atalanta’s only victory over that period was a 1-0 home success in the league in 2022-23.
Fiorentina holds the advantage ahead of this crucial second leg in the Coppa Italia. It could be worthwhile to side with the visitors to reach a second straight final in the competition, as they have an excellent record against their rivals across all competitions.
