Aston Villa vs Cardiff City Preview and Team News

Aston Villa Team News

Aston Villa suffered a second consecutive away defeat in the Premier League against Crystal Palace (4-1). Despite a relatively equal first half, Unai Emery’s men were thrashed in the second and eventually failed to put up resilience.

After the loss, Villa occupy 10th place in the standings, six points adrift of fourth position. However, in the FA Cup, they managed to knock out two strong opponents – West Ham and Tottenham, and they are the favourites in the upcoming match.

Against Cardiff, Emery will be without Ross Barkley, Boubacar Kamara, Amadou Onana, and Pau Torres. All of them are out with injuries.

Aston Villa predicted lineup vs Cardiff City (4-2-3-1): Olsen; Digne, Mings, Konsa, Garcia; Tielemans, Bogarde; Rashford, Bailey, Asensio; Malen.

Cardiff City Team News

Similar to Aston Villa, relegation-threatened Cardiff played against Hull, defeating them 1-0 thanks to a 52nd effort from Callum Robinson. The Wales-based club now sit 19th in the Championship with 36 points.

Prior to the Villans, Cardiff faced Sheffield United and Stoke City. Against the latter, they advanced in a dramatic six-goal thriller, eventually getting the upper hand in penalties.

The squad must focus on advancing to the next stage, and head coach Omer Riza will use the starting lineup. As for absentees, Jak Alnwick, Jesper Daland, Ollie Tanner, and David Turnbull will miss the fixture this weekend.

Cardiff City predicted lineup vs Aston Villa (4-2-3-1): Horvath; Rinomhota, Fish, Perry Ng, O’Dowda; Chambers, Mannsverk; Willock, Colwill, El Ghazi; Salech.

Aston Villa vs Cardiff City Prediction

  • Pick: Aston Villa (-1.5) Handicap
  • Odds: 1.61 (22Bet)
  • Score prediction: Aston Villa 2-0 Cardiff City

After a lacklustre performance against Crystal Palace, Aston Villa have a unique opportunity to bounce back at the FA Cup. Luckily, they’re not facing a strong opponent. But, they’ll have to work for a triumph.

Emery always approaches domestic tournaments with motivation and will likely choose a strong lineup. His men will be motivated to score a fast goal and concentrate on increasing the advantage.

We expect a one-sided game, where the hosts will have the initiative and eventually get a convincing victory. Our first suggestion for this clash is Villa to win with a (-1.5) handicap.

Aston Villa vs Cardiff City Prediction, Betting Tip

  • Pick: Under 3.5 Goals
  • Odds: 1.64 (22Bet)

FA Cup matches at later stages are tense, especially if low-profile clubs are playing against fierce rivals. Cardiff’s chance would possibly be to bolster the defensive barriers and build their flow on counterattacks.

Aston Villa will have some issues overcoming the barriers, and it’ll be difficult to score a high number of goals. More likely, we’ll see a shortage of dangerous moments, and even the slightest mistake could be costly.

If we take a look at the previous H2H results, the teams have not averaged three or more goals very frequently. The same is anticipated here, and we advise picking a less risky bet – under 3.5 goals.
