Aston Villa vs Brentford Preview

Aston Villa

Aston Villa and Brentford go up against each other in a high-octane clash in the English Premier League at Villa Park on Wednesday. Villa are renowned for doing well at home, and their defenders will be keen on retaining their shape and not allowing Brentford’s attackers to bypass them.

The Villans are not in the best of forms as they come into this game on the back of five consecutive games without a positive result. They will, however, hope that their midfielders pass the ball better and bring their attackers into play more often in this match.

Manager Unai Emery, whose arrival has uplifted the club’s fortunes, will know that his tactics will be tested to the core against Brentford. The hosts are ranked eighth in the league table with 19 points to their name.

Emery has trusted a 4-4-1-1 formation this season, and it is bound to surprise Brentford and, in turn, invert the game in favour of the former.

Brentford

Brentford, who have been one of the biggest surprise packages in the Premier League ever since their promotion from the Championship, know that they will not be given the best of welcomes by Aston Villa’s supporters in this match.

Manager Thomas Frank, known for his cavalier ways, likes to play in an attacking 4-3-3 formation, in which wingers Mikkel Damsgaard and Bryan Mbeumo contribute just as much as centre-forward Wissa does.

Their midfielders Nørgaard, Janelt and Jensen too have been in fine form this season, and they will be expected to rise to the occasion in this game as well. However, Nørgaard has been suspended for this match, forcing coach Frank to make some tactical changes.

Striker Wissa, who has scored seven goals this campaign, is nicely complimented by Mbeumo, who has found the back of the net on eight occasions.

The Bees are an extremely aggressive side, and this means that Villa’s defenders will have to be on the vanguard at all times to prevent a goal riot from taking place.

Aston Villa vs Brentford Prediction

  • Pick: Aston Villa to win
  • Odds: 1.70 (22Bet)
  • Score prediction: Aston Villa 2-1 Brentford

We expect Aston Villa to win this game, and the odds are heavily in their favour. Villas striker Ollie Watkins has been one of the most consistent performers in the league over the last couple of seasons.

Although the absence of Amadou Onana and Jacob Ramsey due to injury may challenge them in this match, manager Emery knows that he has enough reserves in his squad.

Central attacking midfielder Morgan Rogers, who has contributed five goals, is another player who will play a big role in this match.

Brentford, who have conceded 22 goals so far this season, are ranked 11th in the league table with 17 points. Their defenders will have to be on their guard at all times and mark their lines tightly.

Aston Villa vs Brentford Prediction, Betting Tip

  • Pick: Both teams to score
  • Odds: 1.53 (22Bet)

We expect both teams getting on the scoresheet in this match. The last four meetings between these sides have seen both teams find the back of the net, and the same trend is likely to continue here.

Aston Villa will be without Amadou Onana and Jacob Ramsey, which might impact their midfield balance.

For Brentford, the absence of Aaron Hickey and Joshua Dasilva could leave vulnerabilities, particularly in defensive transitions. The visiting side are known to respond well whenever they concede goals early on, but they will hope to not get into such a situation in the first place.

Villa know how to exploit the spaces on the pitch and push ahead in the final third, especially at home, and they have a massive advantage in this game. The presence of Watkins up front will dent the confidence of the Brentford defenders.
