The latest round of La Liga action kicks off on Friday, as Girona bid to maintain their excellent recent form with a fourth straight victory. However, they may not have things all their own way this weekend, as Alaves have also won their previous three.
Girona have already made history this season, as they can begin to plan ahead of a first season in the Champions League next term. But, the Spanish side will be looking to end their campaign on a high by finishing in second spot. They come into this round after rediscovering their form after winning three on the bounce, which includes a stunning success over Barcelona last weekend.
Alaves will still have targets of their own to achieve before the end of the season in Spain, as they will be aiming to finish in the top half of the standings. The Spanish side have enjoyed a fine campaign this term after winning eleven of their 43 matches, while they have bounced back to form in great style in recent weeks after winning each of their last three.
Despite their excellent performances this term, the trends don’t favour Girona this weekend. They have won on just two from 13 visits to Alaves across all competitions, with their only top-flight league success being achieved in April 2018.
Alaves are the side in Spain to have played on a Friday more frequently than any other team this term. Their record on the day is also very solid, winning four from six matches. Defensively, they have been excellent in recent weeks after keeping clean sheets in each of their last three. However, they have never won four successive La Liga matches.
This will be the sixth time that Alaves and Girona have clashed in a La Liga meeting. Both sides have picked up two wins apiece, with Girona landing a comfortable 3-0 success earlier in the season. That gives them an opportunity to claim the league double over Alaves for the first time in La Liga on Friday.
While Girona will be looking to end the season on a high point, it is hard to ignore the recent form shown by Alaves in the competition. For that reason, we could see the hosts extending their healthy record in league matches played on a Friday by claiming maximum points this week.
