Top 5 Arsenal Players in September 2024

As the October International break has started, the time has come to evaluate the best Gunners of September 2024. So here is our top 5 best Arsenal players.

5. Gabriel Magalhães

It may be surprising to see a defender on the list, but Mikel Arteta’s team is known for its strong defence. It’s difficult to pass through Arsenal’s block, and Gabriel Magalhães has played a key role in protecting Raya’s goal. The Gunners are yet to concede in the Champions League, keeping clean sheets in both the 0-0 draw against Atalanta and the 2-0 victory over PSG.

Although Gabriel wasn’t initially regarded as one of the most technical players upon his arrival in London, Arteta has demonstrated his ability to develop and elevate all types of talent.

His off-ball anticipation prevented numerous chances, proving his value to the team and securing his place on this list.

4. Declan Rice

Mikel Arteta’s system and project wouldn’t make sense without Declan Rice. The midfield anchor was brought in for a hefty price, but Arsenal hasn’t looked back since, and the investment has proven worthwhile.

There is a clear divide in Arteta’s reign at the club, marked by the arrival of Declan Rice. He embodies the ideal blend of athleticism and technical skill, allowing Arteta’s tactics to flourish.

His leadership is defined by action rather than words, making him a commanding presence on the pitch. Arsenal’s midfield has significantly upgraded in quality since his arrival, both offensively and defensively.

3. Gabriel Martinelli

Gabriel Martinelli often flies under the radar due to the star power around him, but the media cannot ignore his contributions. Since the beginning of the season, Martinelli has scored two goals and assisted twice, ranking second in xA figures, just behind Bukayo Saka.

Martinelli’s unique style as an inside forward makes him an unconventional yet vital asset in various attacking roles. His contributions in the final third are pivotal, offering Arsenal a more direct route to goal.

Martinelli has also created the second-highest number of chances, following Saka, indicating his improved decision-making and creativity. Previously criticized for holding onto the ball too long, Martinelli has made visible strides in this area and has become a more efficient playmaker for his team.

2. Kai Havertz

When he first arrived, Kai Havertz faced skepticism from many Arsenal fans, who argued that the club should have invested in a more traditional striker. His struggles at Chelsea didn’t help his case either.

However, Havertz has silenced critics by becoming Arsenal’s top scorer with four goals and one assist in seven games. Gabriel Jesus was initially expected to start ahead of him, but Havertz capitalized on Jesus’s fitness issues and carved out his own role at the Emirates.

Havertz’s height is something Arsenal was lacking, especially in set-piece situations. Although not a traditional striker, his agility and versatility make him a difficult player to defend. Despite initial doubts, Havertz is now winning over the fans with his performances.

1. Bukayo Saka

It comes as no surprise that Bukayo Saka, the undisputed leader of Arsenal’s attack, takes the top spot. He orchestrates play with his unpredictable dribbling and vision.

While some critics may point out his “only” two goals in seven games, his contribution extends far beyond goal-scoring. He provided a remarkable seven assists this season, showcasing a more selfless version of himself.

He currently leads most attacking metrics for the Gunners, including expected assists (xA) at 3.16, which indicates his ability to create dangerous opportunities.  There isn’t much to do against him than pray for mercy. By now, Saka has become one of Europe’s household names.
