Top 5 Liverpool Players of October and November 2024

5. Ryan Gravenberch

Ryan Gravenberch has been making significant progress under Arne Slot and is increasingly effective as a defensive midfielder within Liverpool’s medium-low defensive unit.

At the start of the season, the Dutch midfielder excelled during high-pressing situations. However, he struggled with reading the game and making quick decisions around his own box.

This challenge stemmed from his previous experience at other clubs, where he primarily played as a number eight, a so-called box-to-box midfielder. Arne Slot has since redefined Gravenberch’s role, requiring him to take on more defensive responsibilities in deeper positions.

Gradually, Gravenberch has adapted to these new demands and has emerged as a reliable “midfield enforcer”. This progress justifies his inclusion among the Reds’ standout performers of the month.

4. Luis Díaz

Luis Díaz has been on fire this Premier League season. The Colombian winger has scored five goals in just 11 Premier League matches, compared to just eight goals throughout the entire previous season. Additionally, he has the net three times against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League, showcasing his effective performance as a central forward.

Díaz has become more consistent and a more clinical finisher this season, converting chances with a newfound consistency. Moreover, he demonstrates exceptional dribbling skills, regularly creating difficulties for his opponents.

Díaz’s competition with Cody Gakpo, a standout last month, seems to be fueling his motivation. With a strong competitor, he understands that he needs to bring his A-game every match.

If the Colombian continues to capitalize on his opportunities as successfully as he has been, Liverpool’s prospects for success this season are looking brighter than ever.

3. Virgil van Dijk

After the serious injury that van Dijk sustained in November 2020, many doubted that the Dutch central defender would ever return to his commanding best.

However, over time, Virgil has proved the doubters wrong, becoming Liverpool’s ever-reliable “backbone” in defense and appearing in over 90% of matches each season.

Virgil van Dijk excels when playing in a high defensive line, effectively shutting down opponents in advanced positions due to his quick decision-making. He positions himself well in the penalty area and is strong in aerial duels. In attack, his pinpoint diagonal balls to Mo Salah have become a signature, allowing the Reds to transition quickly from defense to offense.

A player of van Dijk’s caliber certainly deserves to win more silverware than he currently has, and he is one of the key players who can help Liverpool win more trophies.

2. Curtis Jones

Curtis Jones has become a key player for Liverpool after the last international break, displacing Dominik Szoboszlai from the starting lineup. In defense, Jones successfully neutralized Cole Palmer and played a crucial role in Liverpool’s attack against Chelsea, with well-timed late runs into the box that set up two of the Reds’ goals.

Jones is well-known for his relentless pressing and skilful dribbling, but recently, he has also improved his ability to find space and engage in combinations with his teammates.

In addition, Jones is highly effective during counter-attacks, delivering timely assists to his teammates that catch defenders off guard. If he maintains this form, he has a strong chance to make this season his best yet.

1. Mohamed Salah

After a slight dip in form at the end of September, Mohamed Salah has roared back to top-level performance in October and early November, consistently contributing goals and assists in nearly every match.

In the past month, Salah has scored five goals and provided five assists in six matches, showcasing his talismanic presence for Liverpool.

The Egyptian King scored a breathtaking winner against Brighton and orchestrated Liverpool’s quick vertical attacks, leading to multiple goals. It is hard to imagine the Reds‘ success this season without Salah leading the charge with his outstanding dribbling, passing, and shooting skills.
